The Mad 5 - the moniker had been given by somebody long gone, but it had somehow stuck - clustered before various kinds of communication equipment, of the more or less illegal variety.
Doctor J, Professor G, Doktor S, Instructor H and Master 0. That is what they were called now. Though Howard the Engineer was still, thankfully, just Howard.
There had been others, but not any more.
It was time.
"J, J, can you hear me..."
It was good to hear from the others again, the man only known as Doctor J now thought.
And even better to hear that their plans were actually managing to go forward instead of backward, for a change...
"So we all have our Suits on-line, and the Pilots are shaping up nicely. ...Well, most of us, that is."
Doktor S gave an apologetic cough, at that.
"Well, there's always the option of actually going through with Trowa Barton, but..."
"Oh, please, no. Not Dekim's son, damnit..."
"Yes, yes, I'd rather not either, but...well, actually, there is somebody I've been keeping my eyes on..."
" -Oh, really?"
Several of the scientists coughed.
"Show us, show us..."
Alright, then.
Doctor J rubbed his hands together. This was going to be...fun.
**Option A
So what do we have, here...
"Pilot 01 - Edward Hoenheim. I made his arm and leg myself. Damn good pilot, though a bit on the short side, as you can all see..."
"...Hoenheim?"
That was S.
"Yes. What? Do you know him?"
"No, it's just that - oh, never mind. Any relation to a certain Professor Hoenheim, by the way?"
J sighed, at that.
"...Maybe."
"OK, the next one is..."
**Option B
So what do we have, here...
"Pilot 01 - "Zechs Marquise". ...He's good."
There was a long, long silence, as jaws dropped all over space.
"But - what? He's... He's..."
Yes, yes, he did look like his father. A lot.
Poor boy. Though he wasn't really a boy any more, J supposed...
**Option C
So what do we have, here...
"Pilot 01 - Saotome Ranma. His reflexes have to be seen to be believed. ...Not that normal people can actually see him when he goes all out, that is."
There was much ooh'ing and ahh'ing. J was content. At least a little.
**Option D
So what do we have, here...
J looked at the data sent on his screen. And kept on looking.
"...Each and every one of them are female?"
**Option E
So what do we have, here...
"Pilot 01 - "
Well, if they weren't impressed by this one...
