And then...
Gilbert Dullindal sighed, looking at his chessboard. Things really had been going much to smoothly, he supposed - but still. This.
Shin Asuka, MIA.
......Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn.
A long way from PLANT, Rey Za Burrel was also thinking about the basically the same thing.
Shin Asuka, MIA.
He didn't feel like swearing, though. He didn't even feel like playing the piano.
He was all...empty. Like after Rau was gone. Except that in some ways it was even worse, because -
Ooooops. Why don't you look where you're going, you -
"...Lunamaria?"
....Ooochies, is not very well made or well in general clone, do not hug quite so hard...
"Rey...I...Shin..."
Rey Za Burrel couldn't quite figure out why he'd wrapped his arms around a crying Lunamaria. Right in the corridor, to boot.
He wished Shin were here. Shin would have been able to figure it out. Or provide a distraction. Or something.
And it was then and there that Rey figured out that that empty feeling meant that he missed Shin.
Badly.
He was running out of good pawns.
...No, that wasn't quite true - what he was running out of was pawns of a certain particular kind, not good pawns in general. Those he still had plenty of.
He relied much too much on Rey as it was, anyway. Rey, more then anybody else, sometimes still made him wonder if -
Ahh, it was all water under the bridge, anyhow. The dice was thrown, already.
Gilbert Dullindal sighed, and rubbed the back of his neck. Meer would be coming by later this evening, and he would have to provide the needed reassurance and encouraging. Somehow.
All the footage of that monster suit rampaging Berlin had been very useful, to be sure, and would be even more useful still in the days to come, but -
Gilbert shook his head, then. Come on, now.
Problem No.1, for the moment, the Archangel. Problem No.2...
Athrun Zala.
He had just so few people with the abilities that were needed.
Gilbert sighed, yet again. Though on the other hand...
This did simplify things a lot, all things considered.
Shin Asuka with Rey handling him had turned out to be very useful indeed. So much so that he'd pretty much been beginning to think he didn't need Athrun Zala at all, not really... Especially since Athrun had seemed determined to turn footdragging into a art form, recently.
But still, when it came to the punch...
Athrun Zala loved PLANT, wholeheartedly and deeply. While Shin Asuka...
Oh Rey, Rey, Rey. It wasn't like he expected Rey to be loyal to PLANT as a whole, but -
Gilbert looked at the wall a bit, then. And sighed, yet again.
Shin Asuka had loved many things. Truly and deeply. For that was his nature.
It was just too bad that PLANT as a whole had never even came to the running on the "loved things" top ten list, now was it?
Let's see, now - he'd have to plan for the not very likely case that Shin Asuka turned out to be not dead after all, but apart from that -
A hour or so later, Gilbert Dullindal put down his hands, and leaned back. A plan had been made...sort of.
Note to self : make time to say something comforting to Rey. He'd been quite fond of Shin Asuka, Gilbert knew that much. And maybe that Lunamaria girl too.
And then....
