"... And furthermore, I sayeth thus that Magister Natsume is not representative of the will of the Gods; for surely they would not advocate that we leave the rest of the world to wallow in their uncouth savageness? Would they not rather send great warriors, to lead our armies-"
BOOM!
The orator, a senator famous for his diatribes, war-mongering and unrelenting hatred of the pacifist doctrine espoused by Professor (or Magister as the Romans called him) Natsume, found himself thrown to the ground by a bolt of lightning, much like the one which had heralded the arrival of the Hand of Vulcan. This time, however, it was not one, but two men; one rather portly fellow, and what most assumed to be his son. Both were somewhat dirty, dressed in rags - completely unlike Magister Natsume. When they too proved unable to speak any civilized tongue, runners were sent for the professor, in the hopes that the gibberish they spouted not only sounded similar.
It soon became apparent that the verbose senator had gotten his wish; two warriors from the same land as Natsume, as far ahead of the average legionnaire in terms of fighting ability as Natsume was ahead of the average ingeniator. The will of the gods was also clear - though the human interpretation of it was somewhat diverse.
On a related note, Senator Caensii retired after that day, citing heart problems - and the overall level of piety and respect for the divine rose quite a bit among the otherwise jaded politicians.
