"Geez... you would have thought that these people know about AI before," muttered Canard while strolling down the corridor in the Eternal. After speaking with the three pilots that DaCosta named earlier on the matter that he had brought up in the meeting, he had been held up by a number of crew members wanting to get a closer look at Eight since they have not seen an AI as advanced as it. Some engineers were eager to take Eight apart but the Dreadnought pilot made sure that they wouldn't take such an action just to find out what made the computer tick. Besides, Lowe would make such a huge fuss over it if anything happened to Eight while it was in the Coordinator's hands.
"I'm used to it since that was the initial reaction from all the other Junk Techs when Lowe showed me off," chirped Eight.
"Too bad you don't have anything in your memory banks about where you were constructed, schematics or whatever. Mankind can probably use a few level-headed AIs to make sure that their idiocy doesn't go too out of hand." Canard reached the end of the corridor and turned left to head back to the mobile suit dock. He noticed the strange way some of the former ZAFT soldiers were looking at his suit and he wasn't too comfortable with that. The sooner he could get to his suit, the better he would feel. "Are you sure we're going the right way?"
The computer beeped once. "Positive."
Along the way, he started hearing bits and pieces of a conversation further ahead. "Kira... tell me one bad thing about yourself."
He stopped when he heard the female voice mention Kira. 'Let's not get too paranoid... Kira can be a common name in this galaxy...' Shaking that thought away, he continued his way towards his destination.
"W-what? Where did this come from, Lacus?"
She gave a soft giggle. "Throughout all the time we spent together, I could never really pick up one negative trait about you." Silence followed for ten seconds before she spoke again. "Everyone has some negative traits. Even I have a few. It's what makes us human. Only a perfect being would have no such negative characteristics."
The voices were getting a little louder as Canard floated through the corridor. "Still... this is a bit much. You just asked right out of the blue!"
"I want to know all of you, Kira Yamato... I want to love all of you..." Canard froze at the female addressing her companion with the name that had haunted him as a child. The name given to him in that blessed and cursed meeting with that mysterious man. The one person who he had to crush so that he would be the 'real version' of the Ultimate Coordinator.
His body went on auto-pilot and drifted towards the source of where the conversation took place. All of his old instincts were screaming at him to find a gun and blast a hole through Kira Yamato's head so that nobody would ever address Canard as a 'failed version' ever again. Then Prayer's old words came to him.
'You are you, even if you kill Kira. You won't become someone else.'
**********
The Freedom pilot allowed himself to float in the air, a side effect of residing in a ship in space. "Well... I've got a lousy imagination. Does that count as a negative trait?"
"You're not even trying to think of a negative trait about yourself, are you?" asked Lacus in an exasperated tone while idly rotating Haro in her palms.
He corrected his position so that he could face his love interest eye to eye. "I'm serious about that last part! Back when Athrun and I went to school together on the Lunar Colony, we had to work on a creative religion assignment. He was the one who came up with the whole Followers of Light from Moon Moon. You'll keep that last part a secret, will you? Athrun never wants to speak of that particular experience ever again."
Before she could respond, Haro activated itself. "Company! We have company!" It bounced out of the young woman's palms and out through the open doorway which connected to a corridor. The two teenagers stepped out of the room to find themselves face to face with a young man in black carrying a small laptop in his right hand. He noticed the pair in front of him and steered his gaze towards the young man. Confused purple eyes met conflicted brown eyes. Then the man in black broke the silence.
"Kira Yamato, I presume?"
