The weird thing that Akane noticed was the belt Ranma wore.
It was decorated with a black drawing of the head of some kind of cat on a red background.

• Ranma had a trip to third earth and just returned.
• Alternate version of Ranma, who was BORN in the universe of THUNDERCATS
• ... who was that version's analogue of Lion-o.
• Some other link with the THUNDERCATS
• It's NOT the eye of Thundera, so NO link with the Thundercats.
