Thirteen: Spooky old house [Episode 165811]

They entered the living room. "Wait here, kids! I shall see if I have some dry clothes for the young man. Afterwards, I will see if your little story is true. Phobos, stay! Deimos, come!"

One of the two 'hell hounds' stayed behind, while his twin followed his master on his command.

Ranma sat down in one of the comfy armchairs in the room. Lost in thought, he began to stroke Shampoo's fur. Shampoo herself seemed to have dozed off a little. Mamoru was studying the expensive paintings hanging on the wall. Phobos was just sitting next to Ranma's armchair and watched her - or rather the little fluffball in her lap.

They stayed silent for a few minutes.

After about five minutes, Demos returned. Phobos' twin was carrying some clothes in his mouth - the two dogs seemed to be trained pretty well. He walked over to Mamoru and let them fall with a little "Woof!"

Mamoru picked the clothes up - it was another robe, like the one Grandpa was wearing. Now that Ranma had a better look at them, they looked like the robes of a priest.

"Hey, it's exactly my size," Mamoru grinned. "Your grampa sure is well-assorted." He vanished behind the sofa to change out of his wet clothes and into the comfy robe.

Afterwards, he walked in front of Deimos and knelt down. "You know, you sure aren't half bad for an ugly mutt!" Deimos answered with growling.

Mamoru waved his hands. "Hey, hey! I didn't mean it like that, really! Wow, you really seem to understand everything I say, do you?"

"Woof," Deimos replied.

"I totally agree," Mamoru said. "But besides, you really are the most ugly, disgusting, slobbering, FILTHY little beast I've ever seen."

Deimos blinked, turned around and walked out of the room.

But before that, he quickly raised his hind leg, and Mamoru's new clothes were wet again.

----

After some time, Grandpa came back. "Okay," he said to Ranma. "I made several phone calls and now I'm pretty convinced that you told me the truth. You can stay!"

Even considering the fact that he really wasn't her real grandfather, Ranma felt relieved. "Thank you!"

Grandpa shook his head. "You know, I'm really sorry about that, but your mother and I weren't... exactly on good terms with each other. However, she was the last living relative I had... that means, you are now!"

He sighed. "Well, it's late... I will show you your rooms now, okay? Please, follow me!"

----

As Amnar didn't have many belongings and Ranma didn't bring anything with herself on this inter-dimensional journey, she didn't require much time to stow it all away.

Shampoo was lying on the big bed. It was big enough that Akane and her sisters could have joined Ranma in his sleep, and they would have enough space.

"I talked to Artemis again," she said.

"Huh?" Ranma asked. "When did that happen?"

"While we were waiting downstairs, I took a little nap, remember? I asked if it was true that my personality is changing."

"Oh... really? And, what did he say?"

"He said: 'Your personality isn't really changing, it's just adapting.' It looks like I just took over the role of a different mooncat who was supposed to look after Amnar. But that was not everything."

"Well, what else?"

Shampoo looked at Ranma. "He said that your personality is also adapting, to match the one of Amnar. It will make it easier for you to represent her, but... it looks like you won't be able to fight as well as you used to be."

Ranma was shocked. "Wha... what does that mean?" she finally stammered.

"Most of your advanced battle moves - the Mokou Takabisha, the Shiryu Shoten Ha, the Amaguriken - you won't be able to use them any more. And also several other battle moves you learned from the training with my great-grandmother or your father. You will still be stronger than Amnar used to be, but not nearly as strong as you were before. I think, in the following days, you will be down to Akane's level, perhaps even more."

"But... but if I can't practice the Art, then I... I..." Ranma really wasn't sure how to live with that. It was bad enough that his father told him all the time that girls were 'weak' and that they couldn't fight. Not only that he learned he was stuck in his girl form while he was in this dimension... But now he learned that he had to start from the very beginning?

Shampoo watched Ranma as she lay down on the bed. "Ranma...?"

"I think I'm gonna sleep for a while, Shampoo," she murmured. "G'night..."
