She just had to wonder why this seemed to be almost... sedate compared to most of what she'd had to deal with.
If noise in his home was what constituted vibrancy in a man's family, Soun knew that he was blessed. His home was not the quiet tomb that it could have been. His wife might not have been there, but she had given him a wonderful family that he could treasure forever. Of course, they were all daughters, which would mean that they'd be brides, instead of the other way around, but he was certain that he'd be the proudest papa that had ever existed on each of their wedding days.
It did make for a rather odd situation to be the head of a house of females though. But he was handling it as best he could. And he loved each and every one of them.
That didn't mean that he wasn't disappointed when he found that the table in the family room had been commandeered by textbooks. "What is this?"
"What's it look like, Daddy?" Nabiki drawled as she reached for a cracker to munch on with her free hand. She didn't have to raise her head from her copying to let him see her lopsided grin. "We're studying. We are students, remember?"
"That's true. I would think that it'd even be expected. You both always do so well."
"I do work for my studies. And as for my sister here? Well, she's the 'Twin' with the brains...."
Ami's face turned a bright pink as she looked up at her sister. "It's not like that...."
"Of course it's like that. You're the one with the brains, and she's the brawn. Everyone at school knows it. I'm not saying that she's stupid, or that you're weak, but we both know who's on the volleyball team, and who's tops in the exam scores."
"I just want to see her put down."
"Listen, Ami-chan, if your siblings don't tease you with that sort of thing, then who will? When we do it, it's with love and affection, okay?" the brown haired girl commented, jabbing her pencil in the other girl's direction
"Okay...."
"Speaking of Akane, where is she?" Soun asked, mildly interested in the way that only a father could be.
"She's in the dojo with Makoto. They said that they were going to be sparring for a while."
"I see. They did say that they would be doing that to me too, but that was a while ago."
"Well, they have to stop in enough time for Kasumi to have help with dinner," Ami informed him.
"That's... Which one would be helping...."
Nabiki couldn't help but laugh. "Makoto, of course. Do you really think that anyone would let Akane cook, and not let anyone else know? Besides, when does our tomboy chef not cook?"
"You're right about that."
"I know that I am."
Ami looked both a bit guilty, and a bit protective as she spoke. "I'm sure that Akane has... other talents, like Mako-chan's fighting and cooking abilities...."
"Me too, but then neither of you 'Tendo Twins' cook as much as those two."
"They just love it, don't they?"
"Sure do."
"We all have our own things, right?" murmured another voice.
The short haired brunette smirked slightly. "Hmm? Nice of you to join us, sis. Come to check up on us?"
"Why would I have to?" asked:
