Faerie Flu: It begins... [Episode 16642]

by Jamil Nate

During the eighties, Hiroyuki Moreau had stumbled upon a game called Dungeons and Dragons. From there, he had developed a passion for Fantasy. He had read quite a few novels and watched several anime (western fantasy was an exotic setting for the japanese) of this particular current.

Using such a western fantasy template for the new japanese womanhood was sure to provoke enraged reactions from the racial and cultural purists (and make a few otakus quite happy). Yes, Japan would see a return of the Fey (or Yousei), thanks to him!

There would be elves, buxom pointy-eared tall beauties more along the lines of Wordsworth than Lodoss War or The Lord of the Rings. Another strike against japanese ideas as few men liked being involved with women taller than them (in Juuban, Makoto Kino suddenly sneezed for no apparent reasons). Moreau had done his homework well, the virus would create many offshoots of the Elf to further confuse things: wood elves, dark elves, aquatic elves, high elves, winged elves, etc...

All would share the extremely long ears anime elves were known for, a figure worthy of supermodels, a slightly higher libido and several little tweaks to complete the picture. The inability to wear anything but high heels, 'gainax' chests, that sort of things...

Moreau didn't stop at elves though. Nymphs, Dryads, Sylphs, Pixies, Nixies... All females would turn into overly attractive incarnations of those mythical creatures.

They would not gain any special abilities from their metamorphosis though. An 'elf' would not live any longer than a human (but would age better, still looking good even in her old age). An exception would be the aquatic varieties who would grow gills to breathe underwater (and grow dependant on regular contact with water). No magical powers or sudden spell knowledge either. Moreau was a scientific genius, not a god.

From the starting point (Akane Tendo), it snowballed very quickly.

Akane contaminated all the girls in her class and others from Furinkan, the teachers included. They would go infect their families and all the people they crossed paths with while returning home at the end of the day.

The fiancees were also contaminated in short order. The clientele of the Nekohanten and the Ucchan got their dose of virus as well as the girls of Saint Hebereke.

Ryoga got into a quick fight with Ranma and got lost shortly thereafter. Men couldn't be affected by Moreau's Faerie Flu but could carry it and contaminate others for a good while. Needless to say, the Lost Boy contributed to the fast spread of the virus in the whole of Japan.

All the contaminated girls complained about symptoms of the flu in the evening. Strangely enough, they were ravenous and ate more than their usual. In fact, the virus was storing energy to launch the 'Big Change' during the Night.

And so, the morning after, Akane Tendo woke up, changed into...
