Nodoka smiled as she looked at her son, sleeping on the mats next to the three Tendo sisters. He looked so peaceful, so manly.
Of course, given that he was six, having only spent a year on the road before she caught up with him at the Tendo’s, it lost a bit of the effect.
When she found out Kimiko Tendo was sick, she rushed right over. The poor woman didn’t even want to go to the doctor.
She was a lot like her husband in that way.
But Nodoka would hear none of it. A woman blessed with three children didn’t have the right or the privilege to act ignorant of her own pains, lest those children possibly lose that mother.
When Kimiko brought up cost, Nodoka spoke to her parents. They had given the redhead an allowance to live on, ensuring through several dozen forms that Genma could not even touch it. This included several tests before Ranma could touch it, after passing a test to prove Genma was not controlling him. If Genma had wanted anything beyond living expenses—which were paid via a lawyer so he couldn’t “lose the money”—he would have to earn it himself.
After speaking to her parents for permission, Kimiko Tendo’s hospital stay and treatment were covered.
Sadly, this left the woman very weak, and she would be so for some time.
This was why Nodoka was here now.
Genma hadn’t even expected that the two women would know each other—despite the fact that he and Soun had met them together, they had been college roommates, and Nodoka had gone out every Friday night to meet her after telling Genma so.
So when she saw Ranma, learned of the training he was doing, and what Genma had been teaching him—girls are weak, stealing is okay, I must eat to teach, while you fast—she was not happy.
She was now going on this training trip to “supervise” Genma.
He didn’t like it.
The family katana changed his mind ... after he was struck with it about seventy-four times.
The kids liked it. They thought of it as a counting game.
It proved to Ranma that learning could be fun. It was because of this that Nodoka would often use the application of pain on Genma as a teaching aid.
But with her going with them, Kimiko had made a request. She had requested that Nodoka take at least one of her daughters with her. She said that Soun would be pretty useless around the house, and it would give the children time enough to learn about each other, and perhaps even join the houses like they had planned.
So, looking over the girls, she had to decide which one she should bring, or if she could bring them all.
After talking with the girls, it was decided.
