He was Prince Ranma.
He had just returned from a shocking tour of a place called Lordlake, where there had been an uprising years before. His mother, Queen Arshtat, had used the Sun Rune to quell it.
It had been a scene of suffering and pain, disease and starvation. Once the "breadbasket" of Falena and a city of great beauty, now it was a blighted land.
Ranma Saotome didn't understand all of it. Neither did Faroush. Faroush could remember his kind and loving mother, though she had some weird ideas about him staying away from girls until he was older and seemed to get weird from time to time. Ranma didn't know what normal was, so he kind of hand trouble figuring out that angle.
There might have been extenuating circumstances though. While Faroush remembered his mother as having some recent problems with her temper, she was a kind and beneficial ruler - the one who had taught her son of the relationship between ruler and ruled and how neither could exist without the other.
He glanced to his left and right, letting the memories of this life identify his companions. Georg Prime, an able swordsman known as "Deathblow Georg" to many. Sialeeds, his aunt, who looked like her cleavage was about to bounce free at the next big wave. Lyon, the girl who was his bodyguard.
"What the ?!" said Lyon, reaching out and snatching at the Prince's wrist. "How did you ?!"
Faroush glanced at his wrist, surprised himself. Though not a Rune Master or Mage, he recognized that he had a Rune on his hand that Faroush didn't remember putting there. More to the point, this was the
