As the group arrived at the gate of a small walled compound, Ranma took note of the sign, "Tendou Dojo: To challenge owner in savage combat, please use the rear entrance."
Looking askance at his old man, Ranma wasn't at all assured of this plan. "You sure 'bout this Pops?"
Sure of himself, the gi clad man swelled as his ego came to the fore. "Of course boy. He may not be the Soun I knew, but I've already taken you to meet him and his daughters before. He was rather impressed by my art and still wishes to unite our schools as the Tendou I knew wished."
Hearing that, Ranma was pretty sure there was something still wrong about all of this. When his old man wanted training, he was never this respectful and had never really wanted to trade martial arts practice or anything. Trouble was, he just didn't know what his old man was up to, but he was definitely up to something.
Eventually the gate was answered by an older girl in a house-dress. "Hello, may I help you?"
Puffing up, Genma tried to make himself look presentable. "Ah, you don't remember me? I'm 'Uncle Genma'. I'm here to see your father about our agreement."
Blinking as the thought filtered through her mind, she gave a quiet exclamation of surprise before politely calling back to the house, "Father, you have guests."
As they walked down the short path towards the house, a tall man in a dark gi came out of the house, his face lighting up when he spotted his guests. "Ah, Saotome, it's been a few years now, I was starting to worry about you."
Nodding, Genma was a bit solemn, yet still upbeat about his prospects. "Indeed Tendou, it couldn't be helped as I was training the boy. We just recently returned from China."
Obviously impressed the taller man stroked his chin sagely. "Ah China, with its ancient mysteries and martial arts wonders. Tell me though Saotome, who are all of these young ladies?"
Startling for a moment as he seemed to realize it for the first time, Genma was hesitant with his answer. "Ah, well, I only remember there being one slave girl when we left for China. Then Ranma picked up another one after winning a glorious battle in her village. Then he got the other two just recently."
Laughing it off, Genma was eager to change subjects. "It's not like it matters, they're just his slaves right? They do have a little skill in the arts though, so it's not a complete waste."
Only Kasumi seemed to acknowledge the raised eyebrows and dark looks aimed at the fat man's back after that statement.
Willing to let it drop, Soun moved onwards with the conversation, turning to lead his guests in. "Ah, well your timing is excellent Saotome, the girls happen to be home right now."
