Ranma had just made it through half his Dagwood when Brittanny stomped in, scaring Gina out the slow sipping on her mocha latte. "Dammit, Gina! Hurry up! This thing itches!" The bell on her choker jingled comically as she moved, causing Ranma to involuntarily chuckle under his breath.
Sensitive werecat hearing picked it up, though. "You think this is funny, Ranma?" Brittanny asked in a calm, sing-song tone that belied her annoyance with the whole situation.
"No, no!" Ranma answered quickly. The last thing he needed was to have to deal with 7 feet of ticked-off werecheetah this morning.
Brittanny turned back to her sister. "C'mon, Gina! Drink that coffee! Go, go!" In an attempt to "help out", Brittanny lifted the bottom of the cup so the liquid would come out faster. This did not increase the aperture of Gina's mouth, however, so the girl quickly became to choke and had to pull away from the table.
Cough "Brittanny! Cut it out!" Gina choked out.
"Oops. Sorry, Gina," Brittanny said apologetically.
"Look at my shirt! You got coffee all over me!"
Ranma shook his head and tried to ignore the two's antics. His stomach had yet to be filled, and he aimed to correct that oversight.
Brianna poked her head into the kitchen and she smiled when she spied Ranma. While walking over to the table, Brianna was slightly puzzled to see Brittanny trying to wipe off her older sister with a dishrag while apologizing.
"Don't ask," Ranma suggested to her as Brianna neared him.
"Right." In a whisper, she asked, "Can I talk to you, Ranma?"
Ranma had to quirk an eyebrow. That wasn't the tone she used if she wanted nookie, but why else would she be whispering? "'Kay, lemme finish." He wolfed down the rest of the sandwich in no time flat and followed Brianna to her room.
Once there, he found Genn, in male form, waiting for them. "Ah crap," Ranma groaned. "This isn't another threesome, is it? I told you last time it was far too weird."
Genn blushed, but Brianna shot Ranma a dark look that told him that no, there would be nothing of the sort involved. "No, Ranma." God, he boy had no brain-to-mouth filter. "This is... something else. You remember the wedding, right?"
Of course Ranma did. Tanya, that high priestess chick, had tried to break up Brittanny and Stripe using that golem of hers. Luckily, Ranma had used the Umisen-ken to get close to the miniaturized Tanya without her noticing and knocked her out with a well-placed flick to the noggin. "Yeah, what about it?"
"Well, that golem that Tanya was using had a piece of Genesis clay in his construction. In short, he was alive."
"Ok, so he was alive." Ranma saw the soul-key from Raphiel's forehead in Brianna's hand. "What's this about, anyway?"
Genn fielded his question. "Brianna believes she can bring Raphiel back to life, but only if she travels to Jade. She has asked me to accompany her, and I think she's asking you too."
"You wanna bring him back ta life?" Ranma asked in mild disbelief. "Why would you- wait a minute. Jade?"
Brianna already had her arguments for taking this trip all in mind and was prepared for anything Ranma could say to dissuade her. So when he shifted gears suddenly, it left her mentally stumbling. "Er... yes."
"Where Master Julia's from?" Ranma questioned while a big smile spread over his face. "Strong fighters, new techniques, new challenges? That Jade?" By the end, the grin Ranma was sporting threatened to split his face in half.
Slightly unnerved by Ranma's exuberance, Brianna nodded quickly. "Yes, that Jade. Does that mean-"
"I'M IN!" Ranma shouted. This was great! He'd been pressuring Master Julia to take him there since she told him about the place. For some reason, she'd always said no. Something about wanting to protect those poor people from the predations of an over-anxious martial artist. Oh well. What she didn't know wouldn't hurt her, right?
"Um... great." Brianna shared an uneasy look with Genn. Maybe bringing Ranma wasn't such a good idea. Still, if she could keep him from challenging half the population of Jade to a fight, he'd be useful. Next to her mother, Ranma was the best martial artist they knew. If things went sideways on Jade, they might need the firepower he brought to the table. "So, all we need to do is talk to my dad to get a ride there. Pack your stuff and meet us by Gina's lab. I have to tell her I'm going on vacation."
"Done." Ranma took off back to his room.
"Was that wise, Brianna?" Genn asked while lifting his bag.
Brianna sighed and put on her backpack. "He's my friend, just like you are. He's wanted to go for awhile, and I think he could be useful."
Genn fell into step beside Brianna. He knew this was important to her. Being an artificially-constructed being, Brianna felt a certain kinship with Raphiel. It was only natural she'd try to help him, but Genn thought Brianna might be playing with fire by asking the walking disaster area that was Ranma along for the ride.
The pair reached Gina's lab where the genius was in the process of trying to cut off Brittanny's new fashion statement with an ion cannon. "Yoo-hoo! Just thought I'd stop by and say so long. Genn and I are heading to Jade for two glorious weeks of way overdue vacation time!" Brianna felt herself sweating, and hoped Gina wouldn't see her distress. This had to be her mission.
"OOOhh!" Brittanny cooed and got up from the table she had been laying on. "That sounds yummy! Can Stripe and I come too?"
"B-but... I- I thought you already had a vacation with Stripe."
"Well, we could sure use another one!"
Brianna was floundering while thinking of an excuse, so whispered to her companion, "Psst... Genn. Back me up!"
Genn cleared his throat. "Ahem. Well, Brianna and I wanted to be alone..." 'Oh, crap!' he thought in a panic. 'That'll never work! Ranma's coming too!' Quickly, he added, "with Ranma." Brianna began to twitch slightly, although she was trying her best to keep the embarrassment off her face.
Both Diggers sisters' eyes widened. "Oh," Brittanny responded in a hesitant tone. "Uhh... have fun?" she offered lamely. Gina just nodded along with her sister, not wanting to go anywhere NEAR that one.
"Um... excuse me..." Séance, who had walked up while everyone was busy looking vaguely nauseous. "I was coming to see Gina when I heard someone mention Jade... err..." The aura mage in training had also heard the part about "being alone with Ranma", which was a bit of an eye-opener for Séance.
Without thinking, Genn shifted into his female form and blurted out, "Did you want to come too?"
Now EVERYONE had immense sweatdrops on the back of their heads. "No, wait!" Genn said desperately. "It's not what you think!"
"PUT ME DOWN THIS INSTANT!"
The accumulated population of the household looked down the hallway to see Ranma hauling not only his pack, but a very annoyed Dr. Diggers in an over-the-shoulder fireman's carry. "Ok, Brianna. I got your dad, so we can go now, right?"
The stares shifted back to Brianna, but now nobody was doing anything to hide their disgust. "EWWW! Brianna! Ranma, Genn and DAD?!!" Gina exclaimed. "What the hell is wrong with you?!"
"No... it's not... we're not... Genn! Help me out here!"
Ranma just sighed. Why the hell was everyone looking at him like that?
