Ranma was dying. He knew he was dying. He had just fought Saffron, and used all his Ki. By using it all, he was close to death. He did not have much longer now.
Ranma coughed up some blood. He felt like Hell. He crawled over to the tap, and pushed the doll Akane under it. She regained her size, but her eyes did not open. He looked on this site with horror.
"Akane." he mumbled. "You can't die now. Not after all I went through to save you."
He knew there was only one thing to do. He gathered in the chi from the surrounding area, and thrust it all into Akane. He even thrust the chi that he was using to keep himself alive. Akane gave a gasp, and her eyes opened. Ranma smiled at seeing her alive now, and then he died.

The first thing Akane saw when she awoke, was Ranma smiling down at her. Then she saw his eyes close, saw him lean forward, and heard him give a sigh. At first, she thought he was going to kiss her. Then he fell across her. She shook him, to tell him to get off of her so she'd get up.
She felt worry when he gave no reaction. Then worry turned to dread when she couldn't feel his breath, which she should have been able to since his mouth was so close to her face. Then dread turned into horror when she felt his neck for a pulse, and could find none.

A scream echoed all throughout the Jusendo valley. It was a scream of utter anguish, loss, and grief. It was the scream of someone who had just lost their soul. It was the scream of Akane Tendo.

In heaven Ranma was talking with the Goddess Belldandy.
"So, what happens now?" asked Ranma.
"You are dead, so you will enter into heaven." said Belldandy.
"What will happen to Akane." asked Ranma.
Belldandy looked at him with such sadness, that he felt a huge chill.
"What?!" he demanded. "What will happen to Akane?! Tell me now if it's something bad!"
"Akane does not take your death well Ranma. When she goes home, she eventually goes insane and goes on a murder spree. When she is through, more than half of Tokyo is destroyed. She kills allot of people. It took the entire JSDF to bring her down." said Belldandy.
Ranma just stared at her, then he asked "Isn't there anything you can do to help her get through this without going insane?!"
Belldandy was about to answer, when a phone rang. She picked up the phone and listened. She placed the phone back into it's self, thus hanging up.
"I just got a call from Kami-Sama." she told him. "He says there is a way. He can send me to deal with Akane, and help her work through her grief so she does not go insane. But you see... There is a price here."
"What is this price?" asked Ranma. "I will do anything to help Akane. What am I required to do huh?!"
"Ranma, there many different worlds, universes, realities, and dimensions." Belldandy said while looking at him with a serious expression. "In most of those worlds there are heroes, or, heroines. They fight great evil in their worlds. Some of those heroes and heroines have died before their time, because of our enemies interference. The price is that you would let us merge you with a certain one, and prevent their death. When you are done defeating the evil on their world, a portal will open and you will be able to go to other worlds. We want you to save all of them."
"You want me to do like that Sam Beckett guy on Quantum Leap. Go into other's bodies and save them. Stop them from dying and then going elsewhere to save others who need my help." asked Ranma.
"Not exactly." said Belldandy. "We want to merge you with this person before their death. This means your personality, emotions, and soul would merge with theirs. You will no longer be Ranma, just as they will no longer be themselves, but a combination of both. You will live again, and if you can survive defeating the evil on their world, a portal that you can pass through in your new body, to go help others."
"That's a heavy price you are asking of me." said Ranma. "I won't be me anymore. But a combination of me and this person. It's a very scary thought, altering me. But no price is too high for Akane, I'll do it, send me through now!"
Belldandy smiled and said "Thank you Ranma, your actions will save countless googleplexes of lives. And before you ask, a googleplex is a page full of zeroes with a one at the beginning. I thank you Ranma, for being a champion of life and saving so many innocent lives."
There were tears in Belldandy's eyes, and Ranma knew they were happy tears from the thought of all those that would finally be saved.
Belldandy said "I will now send you to your destination. Good luck Ranma. We will take care of Akane gently."
Belldandy made some mystical passes with her hands now so that he could be sent onward to his journey to save many lives.
There was a flash of light and he suddenly found himself falling through a tunnel, and wherever he looked, he saw many different universes on the sides of the tunnel like big television screens.
