Plus, the WaveMaster thing meant he’d have to depend on others to protect him, and he didn’t have a high opinion of anyone doing that for him.
And something about the TwinBlade class screamed, ‘monster bait.’
As for the LongArm and Heavy weapon classes, maybe later, the Heavy Axe high hit point count was tempting, but he didn’t want to be slower than molasses.
Now he had to design his costume, but nothing really called out to him, nothing new there.

Shinji remembered what the old man in the bathrobe had said, or had the old man said that? Either way, Shinji picked up on the idea...he -could- be someone else here, er, in the game. That was when an odd thought struck him. He had heard about it all the time, and was told that only old forty year old single men did it, and he -knew- Asuka would call him a pervert if she found out... but she wouldn't... how could anyone know it was him? That was the whole -point- of the game right? That was happened in game stayed in game? Rei, Asuka, Misato, all were so sure of themselves, so confident: proving the old stereotype wrong. They were everything Shinji wasn't. So why not? Shinji double clicked one of the option buttons, and changed the duel option to its counter part, and the costume and his avatar changed slightly.
Shinji started at how the form in front of the 'mirror' altered, stunned at how the game had somehow been able to guess what he looked like, and he was free to modify it how he saw fit. This change however was a little unnerving.
Thou Shinji, was kinda annoyed by how his face changed only fairly so, he didn't really have a girly face did he? It had to be just his imagination. Shinji –did- notice how the costumes were now mostly all revealing in some form or another. (Thou to be fair lots of the guys costumes had been too.) Gees. Game designers really were perv’s. Still, he was sure he could put something together not too risqué. True this was a fresh start, but that didn’t mean he wanted guys staring at him constantly while he was playing. Or would that mark him off as a guy? Naw.
Shinji actually started at one costume with a green and white color pattern that completely exposed the stuff below the waist! How’d they get that past the PTA? Still the shoulder guards were nice and you were allowed to totally screw with any color combination you wanted. Maybe he could take pieces from the different costumes and come up with something nice, he almost wished he could ask Misato for her advice, she knew more about this sort of thing than him. Teenage girls could always ask their mothers for advice on fashion Shinji thought (proving once and for all Shinji had been seriously deprived of a relationship with his material parent.)
Finally working up some nerve, Shinji selected the arm guards from the abrasive costume minus the gloves and also put on the upper half of the same costume, thou ‘she’ didn’t fill it quite as well as the ‘model.’ On a whim, he made the green part of the costume purple. He found a double strap leather sword belt with a bronze central ring. Shinji’s lack of fashion sense brought him to a halt several times. Finally choosing to heck with style Shinji threw together some leather boots, a white shirt underneath the armor top with short sleeves, and white pants with round knee guards that matched the purple of her armor. Not the most beauty costume ever, but it was his first.
She chose to give herself blue eyes (like Asuka’s) and increase her hair length and put it into a ponytail to further distance his avatar from her real self and finally brown hair instead of black, like his mother.
Everything for her creation was done. Except for one small but important space yet to be filled in, her name. Shinji looked in the mirror of the game world in the black and random colors in between space between the real world and The World. Shinji knew what name he had to pick. He typed in the name, and at last, logged in.
A voice said as she appeared in the game world. “Welcome, to the World. Yui.”
