The thing was that the people who'd actually had contact with guys had died off, which had left only the histories to give any one real facts about them. Of course, there were all the stories /told/ about boys, but they'd been passed around for ages by girls and women who had scanty information at best. By what she'd heard, boys were bigger, stronger, and more physical than women, with the tales told about them covering everything from facial hair to being creatures of instinct and little thought. Considering how easily even rumors could get messed up, it wasn't exactly easy to believe the stories about men. The fact that there were tales about all sorts of stuff, like there being intact sleeping capsules resting in deep caves in mountains, or special creams that could remove all physical imperfections, showed that no one had quite tried to keep the stories 'real'.
Though, the boy that they were coming too was rather... odd, in and of himself. He wasn't some tall and strapping figure of obvious manhood, but was actually kind of... 'cute'. Should someone find a way to smooth the lines of his face, and put him in a dress, he'd probably look like a reasonably attractive girl. His minder was poised well, but he was not hiding his impatience very well. Instead, he was almost bouncing on his toes as he obviously gazed around the area.
So, when the two girls stepped up in front of the pair, she merely wondered what sort of person he'd be.
"Would you two be... Kanna and Maria?" the 'schoolmarm' asked.
A small nod was all Maria allowed herself to do. "That is right."
"I'm glad to finally meet you! Girls, this is Ranma. Ranma, they are...."
"My new friends!" chirped the boy, his mouth curving into an unabashed grin.
"Ranma...."
"What? They came to hang out, didn't they?"
"Sure did," Kanna agreed as the adult opened her mouth to speak. "At least, that's what we came to see if we could do."
"I thought so! And... are you a fighter?"
"You betcha!" the redhead confirmed, flexing one arm.
"Cool!"
"Eh?"
The pigtailed boy nodded resolutely. "I'm a fighter too! That'll mean that we can practice together, and have lots of fun!"
"I like the way that you think."
"It does seem that you two are getting along," the blonde girl observed.
"True. And what about you?"
"Me?"
"Yes, you. Aren't you here to make friends with him too?"
"Well, that is so...."
"Which is great!" Ranma put in.
"Why did you say that?"
"I thought that they might've decided that I should play with some girly girl who is all about tea parties and lace on her dresses. But they sent /cool/ girls."
"Then will we be as good friends as you've had before?" Maria asked, raising a brow, having decided that this boy was the sort of open and friendly person that she could get along with.
"I think so. But I haven't had many friends...."
"Oh? Why is that?"
"Pop kept us movin' 'round, and never really let me stick with my buddies...."
"Then I hope that we'll get along even more."
"Even if I'm a fighter?"
"But I've been something of a... fighter myself," the young blonde admitted.
"You have?"
"Yes, I have."
"Hmmm.... But... but...."
"What?"
Ranma leaned in and looked her straight in the eye. "You're cute."
Almost immediately, Maria started blushing without realizing just why she was doing so. All that she knew was that she was rather surprised by his... observation, and didn't know what to make of it.
Kanna and the adult woman merely stared at the both of them, while:
