Eberron: Genre Law [Episode 171484]

by Kestral

Certain worlds operated by certain Rules. Not laws as in Aramar's Shadar Empire where dragons of Very Old or greater status had the right of way in traffic situations. More like generally true Rules that revealed patterns that the universe tended to throw out. An example of this would be in the Forgotten Realms where, eventually, any sufficiently experienced adventurer would run afoul of ancient artifacts.

In Eberron, eventually one would run afoul of conspiracies and hidden organizations. There was also, almost always a Rival. In this particular case, it was composed of people who had known several of the people involved with one Captain Cid.

"Blues Company reporting, Mister Cornelio."

"Good good," said Cornelio. "You understand your objective?"

"Cute girls," said the leader of Blues Company.

"That'sa right," said Cornelio with a nod. Then he caught himself and shook his head. "No, that'sa wrong. You be keepin' an eye on old Cid's people. He be headin' into dis territory rightsa here."

Looking at where a fat bejeweled finger had just stabbed onto a map, Seifer frowned. "The Broken Shadows Ridge?"

"Right," said Cornelio. "He's going after something called the energist crystal in a tomb sealed away by an elven mage named Edea a few centuries ago."

"And you want the Crystal?" asked Seifer.

"There is no Crystal," said Cornelio. "What's really in there is this stuff."

The smuggler/crime-lord put a small container of blue powder on the table.

"What is this? Some sort of drug?" asked Seifer, not going to touch it.

"Yes," said Cornelio. "More than that you don't gotta know."

"It's Mandragora Powder," said Dr. Lugae. "That's not the 'tomb of Edea' - it's where the dark wizard Kefka had his lab."

"How'd you know that?" exclaimed Cornelio.

"Doctor Lugae's job is to know things like that," said Seifer.

"Well, if you just go in after Cid's group, they'll deal with the traps and such, you just bring me the powder," said Cornelio.

"I think he's nuttier than that Golbez guy," said Doctor Lugae later.

"I'll get the rest of the team, but I don't have much hope myself," said Seifer. "Still, it isn't like we've got a lot of jobs coming our way right now."
