In different space, in different time, there is a rather insignificant planet circling a rather insignificant sun in an unfashionable part of a rather insignificant galaxy. This planet is inhabited, though not by your usual space aliens.

The inhabitants all have what we’d recognise as Oriental features, specifically Kanto-Japanese, and most of them are not born on this planet. There are exceptions, though, a few of which were even conceived here.

A notable feature is the prominence of the Noble Arts of Self-Defence, which is one of the planet’s main exports, along with trauma expertise. The trauma expertise is directly related to the non-nativity of most inhabitants. There are also many excellent musicians, including violinists and koto players. In fact, anything that requires excellent micromotor skills or very fast decision-making is well-represented here.

The males all have black hair, usually tied back in a pigtail. The females have mostly bright red hair, also usually tied back in a pigtail. The ratio between male and female tends to vary a lot, depending on certain meteorological factors.

When they meet to talk, it tends to sound like the Monty Python ‘Bruce’ skit, except for the name being Ranma, not Bruce.
