OK, then. Appearance set, aura pattern disguises set, charm-proofing and such set too...
The child's fake ID was all ready too, everything totally filed in the right places. Ahh, Bureaucracy. Xelloss loved humans sometimes, he really did...
And now - let the Game begin!
"This is... This is ridiculous. Lucius. We... we can't be expected to take in this - this..."
The supposed USA Ministry official hummed, non-committedly.
"Despite and still, Mr Malfoy, Mrs Malfoy... all the information we have on are files and the Bloodline Charms all show that you two are the nearest Magical relatives to this child..."
The official peered at the papers he had in his hand over his glasses, and then looked at the platinum-blonde baby with light blue-grey eyes, tethered to his arm with some kind of baby halter and looking very displeased with the world in general. Not to mention floating in the air.
And this child is quite obviously Magical, as you can see for yourself. In case of Magical orphans, we do try to place them with Magical families as much as possible of course, you do agree that would be the best thing..."
"Well yes of course, but - " Lucius muttered.
'Mr Deerhart' simply carried on.
"James Orion Malfoy, only child of Sagittarius Petris Malfoy and Aliana Marietta Malfoy, maiden name Grey, both deceased in a 'traffic accident' - the boy's father was trying to drive while drunk, apparently. By driving, I mean a muggle vehicle, of course, not a broom or a carpet or anything Magical. Driving a muggle 'car' 'under the influence' is fully as dangerous as steering a broom in similar circustems - even more so, actually, since the chances of involving other people in accidents are much increased."
Lucius blinked, realizing that by 'other people', the USA Ministry official meant muggles or squibs. Wizards and Witches rarely died or even got hurt in muggle 'traffic accidents', of course.
Odd, to think of the Magicless as real 'people', or something.
"The man seemed to have made a habit of this, from the muggle police records - not good, that. You'd think people would be more careful with a small child along..."
Narcissa twitched. Why didn't his wife stop him if he was drunk? Was she drunk as well? Bloody stupid Magic-less...
"Oh, and they were both Pureblood squibs, which does make the child technically a Pureblood by the most commonly used definition nowadays, if I recall correctly."
Lucius and Narcissa both gritted their teeth at that. 'The most commonly used definition nowadays'- by the Ministry, mostly, which was mostly led around the nose by one Albus Dumbledore, damn him - was a bloody travesty , to both of them. It's definitions of 'Pureblood' was just one example of it's idiocy - Any child born between 'fully Magical parents' were supposed to be 'Pureblood', now? Even between two Mudbloods? It was beyond ridiculous.
Pureblood squibs were a slightly different matter, though - the blood was pure in those cases, and their had been a fair amount of cases in which squibs had managed to produce Magical children. Lucius winced, then, remembering that there were actually a fair amount of muggle parents who managed to produce Magical offspring, never mind the utter affront to The Way Things Should Be that was...
Ew, ew, ew. Lucius grabbed his mind and made it go back to the problem at hand, namely, one blonde brat that shouldn't really have existed in the first place, and at least should have had the decency to stay out of sight if he really did insist on existing in the first place.
Lord Voldemort was... gone, as far as anybody could tell, even the Mark wasn't reacting, and he didn't really know how he felt about that, either - there was a letdown, and a sense of loss, but also a sense of liberation, too. The political scene was going to be utter chaos for a while, and while he was quite sure he could use his money and influence to duck most kinds of persecution the Ministry and Dumbledore could throw at him, this was a complication he didn't need now, frankly.
"Oh, and the name 'Orion' was apparently inherited from a Black great-grandfather, by the way."
Narcissa blinked. Wait a minute, wasn't 'Aliana' a kind of flower, too, if she remembered correctly? She couldn't remember being related to any 'Grey's, but who knew - many people had changed their names when they emigrated to the New World, that much she did know.
Narcissa and Lucius looked at each other, and groaned.
"Ahh, Mr Deerhart - may we look at the results of those Bloodline Charms, again?"
Several minutes later, the Malfoys were looking at the results of said Charms, and groaning yet again. They really were related to the brat, it seemed - both of them. No wonder they had been the first choice the Bloodline Charms showed - most of the boy's magical relatives in the States had died out, according to the data showed here...
"Alright, then." Lucius murmured. Narcissa blinked, and narrowed her eyes.
Come to think of it, this situation did have... possibilities.
"We'll take the boy. Now. If that will be alright with you, Mr Deerhart?"
'Mr Deerhart's grin was quite frankly blinding.
