"Uh, that's me," said Ranma. "Though I ain't gone by 'Saotome' for awhile. Are you from the Fight Channel?"
"No," said the woman. "My name is Botan. My employer has a deal for you."
"A deal?" asked Ranma. "Why should I make a deal? I haven't even decided whether I'm staying here or heading back to the Netherverse. What do you know about me anyway?"
"There is yourself, your Nether Realm, and your twenty followers, plus the three people from the Fight Channel on Deck B," said the woman's image.
Ranma looked at Stetson, the wolf nodded back.
"Okay, you've got good intel," admitted Ranma. "Who's your boss?"
"King Yama," said Botan, floating on her little oar.
The oar and floating didn't faze Ranma, he'd seen enough over the years. He thought about the name for awhile, finally placing it. "King Yama? Lord Of The Dead? He's a local Overlord, ain't he?"
"Not quite, he's under the Mandate Of The Heavens," said Botan.
"Ah, but that still doesn't explain what's in it for me," said Ranma. "Maybe I should just go back to the Netherverse and go hunting big monsters."
"That's exactly what King Yama suggests you do here," said Botan.
"Go back?" asked Ranma. "But I just got here!"
Botan cocked her head at that. "Stay or go?"
Ranma considered the blue-white orb behind the projected image of the girl on the oar. "Stay, I guess. I ain't eaten real Japanese food in years. For a little while at least."
"The deal is simply this, you and your forces can set up your orbital satellite or ship here," said Botan. "When you're ready, leave. Until then, all King Yama requests of you is that you go hunt down a few evil monsters and destroy them."
Ranma paused. "Evil? Monsters?"
"Yes," said Botan. "Demonic beings that hunt humans. Vampires. Aliens seeking to destroy all life. Things like that."
"Are they... strong?" asked Ranma.
"Some are quite powerful, others are - well they're just minions," said Botan.
Ranma considered this deal. Hmmmm.
