Rozen Maiden Revamped: A Rabbit's Reason [Episode 174274]

by Yasanagi

Inside a dimly lit room, a blonde haired man was busy putting on the finishing touches of his most special creation. He had started developing her ever since he had a falling out with his former master. His normal routine had been to work on her during the evenings when the shop was closed. During normal hours, he would have to spend his time crafting dolls that he could sell in the shop. The entire room was filled with doll parts and the tools needed to create them. 'I better fix that loose thread on her clothing before it becomes a problem.'

"Everything's all wrapped up here, Enju-sama. I'll be retiring for the evening now," called out a cheery voice from the entrance to the room. The man glanced over his shoulder to see his helper standing there with that irritable smile on his face. When Enju started his humble business, Shirosaki had just appeared on his doorstep before he could post a 'Help Wanted' ad. He seemed to be normal at first but Enju eventually placed the pieces of the puzzle together once he had found strange and peculiar clues about his employee, particularly why he didn't ask for a wage rate.

He turned back to the doll in front of him and got out a small sewing kit to fix the cloth. "Why?"

Shirosaki paused when he heard the question from Enju. "Hm?"

"Why are you helping me? What's in this for you?"

There was a pause before a deeper male voice answered the blonde man. "Does an entity really need a reason to perform an action? A person can just do something simply because they feel like it and have no true reason behind their action." The helper's appearance had shifted from a well dressed young man to a humanoid rabbit in a tuxedo with a top hat resting between the two large ears.

The craftsman slowly started to patch up the thread. "At least with a reason, I can begin to grasp your desires, Laplace no Ma."

"A reasonable and expected human impulse. The reason that I will give to you is this: I would like to see how far your craft has advanced in comparison to your former teacher. At the least, it will make for an amusing sight when your creation confronts his works. Good night."

Enju no longer felt the presence of the other being as he finished patching up the purple cloth. 'It will indeed make for an amusing sight when my Barasuishou claims victory.'

**********

Seina exited the bathroom dressed in a simple white t-shirt and trackpants. He was feeling quite refreshed after taking his shower. His parents would clean up later when it was their turn to bathe so he didn't bother wiping up the droplets of water from the tiles in the shower stall. When he entered his room, he saw Souseiseki getting ready to go to sleep in her case. As for Suiseiseki, she had her nose in a comic book from Seina's manga collection. "Do you like what you're reading, Suiseiseki?"

The Third Doll blushed a little. "It's... interesting, desu. There are actually pictures that make it easier to imagine things... but it's still no fun without someone playing the voices, desu."

"Our old master used to read us bedtime stories and he had a habit of really bringing the characters to life by acting through their voices," said Souseiseki.

The young man's confusion had cleared up. "If you want, I can read to you. I think I have a few Haruhi novels around that should be interesting enough for you."

Suiseiseki's face brightened. "That would be nice, desu."

As Seina stepped forward, his bad luck flared up again as he tripped over his own feet and hit his head against the bookshelf near his bed. He groaned once before sliding into unconsciousness. The two dolls simply stared at the knocked out young man before Suiseiseki blew her top. "MMMOOOOOOUUUUUU!!!! WHY DID I HAVE TO GET SUCH AN UNCOOL AND CLUMSY MASTER, DESU?!?!?"
