Kashimashi Nerima (Ranma's Story): Like From an Old Dream [Episode 175150]

by Wyrm

Why is it so dark? thought Tendou Soun, seeing only a vast swath of blank across his vision. Soun was confused because last he remembered it was morning, and there was no way that was ten hours. He listened to the far-off voices, and felt the comforting warmth of his weight on his back and the comforter on his front.

Soun realized that he was looking at the insides of his eyelids all this time. I must have been asleep, he realized. Now, why would I have been asleep?

Then he remembered Saotome Ranma, the son of his good friend Genma, taking off his chinese tang and revealed a tightly wrapped… pair… of breasts… Then the next thing he knew, he was lying on the ground with a comforter on him.

I must have dreamt that. That's the only way Genma's son could be a girl, and the next thing I know is me looking at the insides of my eyelids. What a nightmare! he decided, and opened his eyes.

He saw the familiar figure of Kasumi, current housefrau of the Tendou household, squeezing out a towel to lay on his forehead. She finished wringing the towel and turned back to notice his condition. "Oh, father! You have awakened."

Soun groaned. "I had the strangest dream… no, nightmare," he began groggily. "I dreamt that the son of my good friend Saotome-kun was the boy that the UFO aliens made into a girl."

"Yeah, that would be where we came in," murmured Nabiki.

Kasumi smiled sickly. "Father, perhaps it's best that you do not continue—"

Soun continued, heedless of his daughter's pleading. "I'm glad it was a dream. I don't know what I would've done if it turned out that Genma's son was that Ranma!"

The two Tendou daughters looked pensively at each other.

"Nabiki, should we…"

"After hearing that, I'm not telling him," Nabiki whispered back. "He'll probably go out on another three-day bender like he did last time."

The two Tendou daughters stared at each other, wondering if they should try to fool their father into thinking that the Saotome Ranma that was his good friend's son wasn't the same boy reformatted to a girl by aliens, or break the truth to him.

Soun looked up. "Saotome-kun!"

"Tendou-kun!" his grating oyaji voice said as he set himself down with a bottle of beer to share with Soun. Pouring off two glasses of drought, the handkerchiefed man began thusly: "I'm sorry, Tendou-kun. As you already know, our old pact to combine the two schools has a… complication."

"Hmm?" murmured Soun, confused by his friend's news. "What complication might that be, Saotome-kun?"

"You mean that your daughters don't mind that my son is now a girl?"

Soun froze. "You mean… that wasn't a dream?"

"Eh, you thought that was a dream?" Genma asked. "Damn! If I had just kept up the boy's masquerade, I could have gotten him married off before they were any the wiser."

Nabiki grinned ear to ear. "And you woulda gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for your big mouth," she said mockingly.

Soun and Genma stared at each other, an awkward silence filling the void. Finally, Soun stood. "Kasumi," he began, voice heavy with disappointment. "I am going out to get very, very drunk. Don't expect me back before morning." He then shuffled out the room, looking like he was bearing a mountain on his shoulders.

"I'll join you, Tendou-kun," offered Genma, following.

"Saotome-kun, let us have a smashing bender," Soun declared. The two left the house, arms wrapped around each other's shoulders.

Kasumi shrugged with a 'what can I do?' look on her face.
