The tiny, delicate fairy of the forest was flittering through the woods, her wings shining in all colors of the rainbow, leaving a trail of sparkling fairy dust behind...
She was also loudly swearing in Chinese.
"Must be Violent Girl's fault," she continued in Japanese afterwards. "Must have used water of spring of drowned butterfly... mixed with spring water of drowned girl."
She then stopped, hovering in mid-air. "But where Violent Girl get Jusenkyo water from? Not make sense. Great-grandmother would never give to her." She looked around. "And how Shampoo get from town to forest anyway?"
She looked down at her little fairy dress, which kinda resembled her old Chinese clothes. But instead of her bonboris, she suddenly found herself armed with just a tiny little stick which was glowing at the tip.
"Stupid little thing," Shampoo muttered. "Would only be useful if Shampoo is in dark cave..."
----
"Ranma, why did you use the fairy?" his mother asked. "I would have guessed you would take a powerful fighter, like the warrior or the swordmaster..."
Ranma shrugged. "I just felt like it... Besides, her hair reminded me of Shampoo."
He looked at his character card. "Strength 1, Intelligence 5..."
"Well, she certainly will have a hard time when fighting strong monsters," Kasumi pointed out.
"Might be," Ranma admitted. "But look here: Not only is she starting the game with two spells... Every time she has less than two spells, I can draw another spell card, so she has at least two spells all the time."
"Okay, that and the fact that she will be strong against ghosts might be a good reason to choose her, I think," Kasumi nodded.
"By the way," Nodoka interrupted. "Talking of magic... Son, if that was a magic shop where you got the game... Why didn't you ask the old wizard for a way to remove your curse?"
"Well, you see..." Ranma stuttered. "Um, it's like this..."
"Yes?" Kasumi and Nodoka asked.
Ranma grinned nervously. "He had a big sign hanging over his counter that said: 'No refunds in case of accidents caused by trans-gendering magic'..."
Kasumi blinked. "Oh my... that sounds strange, doesn't it?"
Nodoka felt a chill running down her spine all of a sudden. "Weird... why do I have the feeling that somehow, you just barely avoided losing your manliness forever...?"
----
Back in the Spells R' Us shop (wherever it may be at the moment), the old wizard had to sneeze.
----
Ranma had drawn two spell cards for his heroine, read the text carefully and put them on the table face down, so Kasumi and Nodoka wouldn't be able to have a look at them.
In the meantime, the two women had put up the piles of adventure cards, shop cards, talisman cards and toad cards.
"Toad Cards?" Ranma wondered.
"In case you'll be turned into a toad during the game," Kasumi smiled.
"Looks like everything is set," Nodoka noticed. "Who's going first?"
Ranma smiled and handed the dice to Kasumi. "The birthday girl, of course!"
Kasumi nodded and took the dice. "Well, here we go..." And she rolled the dice.
The game was afoot!
