Gundam Seed - After War: The Interview [Episode 176167]

by Yasanagi

It had taken him longer than he had expected to secure the interview with Edward Harrelson but he was aware that it couldn't be helped. Edward is a big hero in this area and a lot of responsibility had been placed on his shoulders. As both an ace pilot and a representative of USSA morale, Edward was more or less all over the base during the afternoon. When he had been approached for the interview, he welcomed it with enthusiasm provided that he gets some supper to refresh himself and that he gets enough time to rest his feet.

The two man escort for Jess Rabble stopped in front of a wooden door. One of the men opened it to reveal a small and cozy little living room with green leather couches and a small tabletop where a bowl of fruit and a fresh cup of tea rested. He noticed a small kitchen to the left where Edward just came out with some freshly cooked hamburgers. "Jess! How's it going?"

"Um... I'm doing quite well, Mr. Harrelson... sir," replied the photojournalist politely as he stepped into the room. A member of the escort stepped into the room as well and closed the door before taking his guard duty post inside the room. The other member had been assigned guard duty outside the room (much to his chagrin since he wanted to be in Ed the Ripper's presence).

"Jess, Jess, Jess... you don't have to be so uptight around me. Call me Ed. Make yourself at home. Do you want anything to eat?" Edward made his way over to one of the couches to place his meal on the small table.

The young photojournalist took a seat on the couch across from Edward and started setting up what would be needed for the interview. He took out his laptop and attached a camera to one of the ports to get footage for the interview. There was a good amount of light in the room so the camera won't record any bad images. "I'm ok. I'm still satisfied from lunch earlier today."

The Sword Calamity pilot chuckled. "True. I noticed how much you ate when I saw you at the cafeteria earlier. So how is this going to work?"

"There's no real set structure for this interview. I have some questions I want to ask but for the most part, I want to keep this flexible so that you can tell your version of what happened between the USSA and the Alliance. If there's any question that bothers you, you don't have to answer it." Everything had been set up and Jess was ready to begin recording.

"My good friend... as a soldier who has fought on the front lines before, I have seen and done many things that would make even the strongest willed humans to feel nausea. I hardly have the right to determine if there's a question that bothers me," said Edward seriously. Then a goofy smile appeared on his face. "Unless it's my sex life with Jane. She would kill me if I spilled anything."

Jess chuckled before pressing the record button on his equipment to begin the interview. "Ladies and gentlemen, I am here deep in the heart of the rebel base speaking with the man who has pledged to lend his strength for the independence of the United States of South America... Edward Harrelson. First, I would like to thank you for granting me some of your time for this interview, Mr. Harrelson."

"It's no problem," replied the man as he bit into one of his burgers.

"To be placed in such a heavy role as the hero of the USSA must be stressful. What motivates you to plow through the load that is on your shoulders?"

"It's simple. I love my country. When I couldn't stop it from being annexed by the Atlantic Federation before, I was ashamed that I couldn't do more to protect her freedom. But now that I have this opportunity, there's no way that I'll let the Feds take her again," said Edward with absolute conviction.

"And what of your thoughts to some of the recent propaganda that the Alliance has been spreading?" Jess took a moment to show Edward a pre-recorded clip from a miniature electronic device.

The ace pilot frowned slightly before speaking. "A misleading truth with many inconsistencies. I would hope that anyone who wants to discover the real truth will dig further to distinguish illusion from reality. People like you definitely have my respect in that regard."

Jess gave a bashful grin. "Thank you for the compliments. Continuing on..."
