Young Ranma's soul was inside the pit of despair trying desperately to unlock his potential as a shinigami. He didn't want to keep on living as a half-monster and he didn't want to turn into a monster. This was his only way to escape loosing his mind to the Hollow growing within him. The young boy's chain of fate was was rapidly corroding away, but he remained determined to find the power within himself. He had the potential, the previous tests show that, all that mattered was finding it!
Yoruichi, Kisuke, and everyone else was standing at the top of the pit nervously looking down at Ranma. "Come on Ranma," Yoruichi whispered with the concern of a mother. "You've got to succeed." Her eyes were focused on the small boy's almost completely corroded chain of fate. "Please Ranma, you don't have much time."
Down in the pit, the last link in Ranma's chain started to corrode. Ranma looked down at the corroding link and yelled in his mind 'Oh no you don't! I'm going to past this test and become a Shinigami and not a monster. My name's Ranma and I won't loose!'
In a flash the scenery around Ranma changed. No longer was he in the pit. However, the young boy had to admit that the pit was a lot friendlier than where he was now. Ranma's current location, mentally at least, was a sandy graveyard with the skeletons of dead monsters littered about. Fear creep into Ranma's heart when he recognized the skeletons around him: they were the remains of the hollows he had killed.
A deep and powerful, and yet at the same time lonely, voice called out through the graveyard, "Why?! Why do you want to destroy me?! Have I not helped you to survive that torture that your so called father put you through? Have I not given you the power to defend the helpless spirits from my brethren like a martial artist is supposed to do? So why, why do you want to get rid of me?"
Ranma might be a little dense when it came to school, or relationships in the future, but he was able to figure out just who was talking to him. The little boy called out, "I don't want to lose who I am. I need to become a shinigami; so I can remain me!"
The hollow called back, "Don't bother, I've taken them already. I refuse to lose you!" Suddenly, a giant feline shaped hollow jumped down in front of Ranma. The hollow then growled out, "You're mine and I've made sure that I'll never loose you to a Zanpakuto spirit."
Ranma looked up at the hollow and yelled out, "But I won't be me! Don't you see, the longer you're with me the less I am me. If you stay with me you'll lose me to you."
The hollow closed his eyes and thought about what Ranma had said. When the hollow opened his eyes a few seconds later he seemed sad and resigned. "Pull off my mask Ranma, that will give you what you want."
Not knowing what else to do, Ranma did as he was told. The young martial artist put both of his hands on the edge of the hollow's mask and pulled. At first the mask refused to come off, but soon enough Ranma found the strength to rip the mask off of the hollow.
Without warning, the now mask-less hollow exploded into a million spirit particles. The skeletons around Ranma also exploded into spirit particles. All of these particles quickly converged on young Ranma. At the same time, the mask in Ranma's hands started to change.
Back in the real world, the gang at the mouth of the pit watched in horror as the last link in Ranma's chain was destroyed. Just after this happened, a powerful blast of energy erupted out of the pit. The energy twisted about itself and then slammed into Ranma's body causing a flash of light so bright that everyone had to turn away an close their eyes.
Yoruichi was the first to look when the light died down and she was shocked at what she saw. In front of her was Ranma. However, he wasn't a shinigami like she expected. Instead, he was an Arrancar with his resurreccion active. However, he didn't have a hollow hole.
