Tekkaman Dead End and Tekkaman Sommer and the Beta Ship were streaking through space in Lunar Orbit. They were here on a training mission. The Space Knights leader D-Boy, otherwise known as Tekkaman Blade, assigned extensive training for all the Space Knights, including himself and the Chief, after the discovery of another species that was hostile towards Humanity.
“I wonder if the entire Universe is out to get Humanity,” David wondered as he dodged weapon’s fire from a computer-controlled drone. “I mean first Radam and now these Mibary.”
“Makes you think about what Humans have done to make the Universe hate us so much,” Dead End said as he sliced three drones with his sword like Tekkalance.
“I think they’re called the Minbari, David,” Anita said. “And don’t say things like that Dead, it’s just to depressing.” As Anita barrel-rolled to the left avoiding a three shot burst from a nearby drone and fired her own weapons taking it out she continued speaking, “What I want to know is where did these Humans come from?”
“We’ll probably find out once D-Boy and the Chief speak with the people on that ship,” David replied as he landed on the Beta Ship.
“Speaking of which I just got a relay from the Lunar Base,” Anita spoke up. “The out of town Humans are approaching the Space Ring as we speak.”
“Then how about we give them a show,” Dead End said as he activated his energy bird mode streaking through space destroying dozens of drones.
Lieutenant Alexander Storencho, the acting Captain of the Earth Force Transport Jasper starred in awe at the blue world the Jasper and its escort were approaching. It looked just like Earth from his home system, just like the rest of this system, except for one very large difference. A huge metal ring structure surrounded the entire planet and was connected to the world by massive metal shafts that extended all the way to planet’s surface.
For the last two weeks Alexander continued to be surprised by the Humans that were native to this system. So surprised in fact that he had yet to ask himself or anyone else where these Humans came from. These Humans possessed technology that was decades to centuries ahead of anything he knew about in the Earth Alliance. Technologies that ranged from theory, like artificial gravity, to works of science fictions, like those power armors he saw, to things that were never even dreamed of, like the quantum based weaponry he and the remnants of his Jasper’s crew witnessed in the fight with the Tinashi; and now an artificial planetary ring. ‘What else are these guys going to show us next?’ Alexander thought.
“Sir! I’m picking up massive energy readings one hundred kilometers off the starboard side!” a teenage girl in an Earth Force Cadet’s Uniform announced. The teenager was one of the refugees that transport was carrying back to Earth. As she was one of the few that had even minimal military training she was forced to become a Bridge Officer when most of the original Bridge Crew were either incapacitated or killed by the attack from the Tinashi.
“Let me see it!” Alexander ordered as he floated over to the Cadet’s station. “What in the world?” he asked. On the screen was a large purple energy bird streaking through space at an unbelievable speed, faster then anything Alexander had ever seen. “Open a channel to the Aramaki. I want to know that the hell that thing is!”
“Channel open,” the Communications Operator said. He was an old man in his early fifties, a retired veteran that was also put on the Bridge Crew from the refugees.
“Captain Lynn what is that energy source we’re detecting?” Alexander asked the Jasper’s escort ship’s Captain.
“That would be a member of the Space Knights Lieutenant,” Captain Lynn answered in Mandarin accented English. “You’ll be meeting them in a few days. Don’t worry they’re on our side.”
“Roger that,” Alexander said turning back to the screen showing the purple energy bird. Thinking back his internal question a few minutes ago he could only think, ‘Ask and ye shall receive.’
Deep within Minbari Space on board the Valen’Sha, Satai Delenn was dong was all of the Grey Council were doing; pondering what they should do with the emergence of a possible new enemy. The entire Grey Council was divided on what to do and unlike in the past it was not simply the Religious Cast Satai debating with the Warrior Cast Satai it was Satai debating with their own Cast.
One of Warrior Satai, an arrogant and self-righteous Minbari in Delenn’s honest opinion, wanted to send a fleet after these people for attacking a Minbari Ship. A fellow Religious Satai wanted to attack them because he argued that the only way a species could compete in technology with them was if they were servants of the Shadows and destroying them would be one less enemy to fight in Time of Prophecy. A Worker Satai wanted to attack them to get their technology to use in the Time of Prophecy.
On the other side a Warrior Satai, one with a high sense of honor and responsibility, said that they should apologize to this new people because the Minbari were the ones to shoot first without knowing if they were an enemy. The argument that the new people were also Human was dubious at best, after all on the Centauri looked Human but were a completely different species this could be a similar situation. The other Warrior Satai, a rational individual, saying drawing such an obviously powerful people into their war with the Humans could be very costly, supported her. The last thing any smart military leader wants is to fight a two-front war. The third Religious Satai sided with the two Warriors for the moral reasons of the first Warrior for peaceful talks.
The third side were the two remaining Worker Satai. They argued that they should not take any action one way or another until more data came in. They wanted to know what to expect from these people before making any kind of decision. For all the Minbari knew these people could be isolationist and just send Earth Ship on its way and tell the Minbari to leave them alone. Or they could be a sympathetic people and side with the Humans or see the Minbari’s war as justice after hearing how the Humans attacked first and killed their leader and stay out of the way. Any number scenarios could happen as was the case when dealing with an alien people.
Delenn was leaning towards trying to have peaceful talks for a number reasons. One reason was because she remembered the Vorlons’ telling her that the Humans were the key in the next Shadow War. If these people were Human then maybe they could be the key and not the Earth Humans. The Earth Humans could be an offshoot of these new people, a lost colony that degraded in technology and only recently made it back into space. Such events have happened before and it would explain the vast difference in technological level. If these people were not Human, just Human-like then they could be a powerful enemy or alley all depending on what decision the Grey Council makes in response to the first encounter. Next was they were unknown, an unknown enemy was the most dangerous kind. The Humans proved that. The Warriors said the war would be easy as the Human’s technology was so far below theirs. As the war proved that was hardly the case. Out manned and out gunned the Humans made the Minbari fight for every inch of space. An unknown possible enemy with technology as advanced as these people would be devastating for the Minbari. And finally there was the fact that Delenn saw the parallel between this and the First Contact between the Humans and the Minbari. Simple mistakes, misunderstandings and a moment of grief started the Earth-Minbar War and now another similar event may bring in another power into this War.
As two Worker Satai said they were simply waiting for more facts the decision on how to respond to these people was deadlocked. If the two decided to attack then the Minbari would, if they decided to side with peaceful talks then a dialogue would be attempted. Until they made up their mind the Minbari would be stuck.
“Satai Delenn,” a young religious acolyte said. “The other Satai are being called into the Council Chamber.”
“Thank you, I shall be there soon,” Delenn replied. ‘It looks like they finally made a decision. I hope they choose wisely.”
