"Watch it," Ranma said sharply as he snatched out for one of Megumi's many arms as the ground slipped underneath her.
"Thanks," Megumi said, embarrassed as she replanted her feet onto a more solid piece of rockface. "Would be funny if a spider-lady got herself killed climbing a cliff, right?"
"No," Ranma said. "It would be my hide when we went back down without you."
"Wouldn't be that bad," Megumi said smirking.
Behind the two came a string of other kumojin. Some were obviously warriors, or at least training to be. Two arachne and four kumo, wearing the thick silk tunics they'd been using for armor as they flanked the engineers and surveyors that Megumi was leading up.
Ranma advanced at the point keeping his eye on things to make sure everybody got to the shelf they wanted to explore. He hadn't liked this idea much, this was the direction those spider-things had come from, after all, but he understood the necessity.
They needed a source of metal and other such things. There was only so much they could do with silk, wood and plants. And having better weapons would also be a good idea. Just in case they had to fight some more. Also, they needed living space that wouldn't die under their weight, which the forest might, in trying to support all of them.
At least he'd managed to talk any of the girls about coming with him up here.
