Mihoshi had seen several series while watching television at the Masaki household, especially after Washu had experimented a bit with the TV. She therefore was familiar with Ranma's situation.
However the situation was NOT a more 'canon' Ranma series, as the version she'd seen had been a variant broadcast on Japanese TV and involving a variant of the inspiring manga. Which was where an artist named Rumiko Takahashi had gotten along pretty well with a certain other mangaka, and the two had crossed their series over since they were working for the same publisher and actually appearing in the same magazine at times.
As such, Ranma had fiancees that had appeared in one or two episodes but otherwise been excluded from events as they had their OWN series they were appearing regularly in. And, of course, sometimes Ranma characters (particularly Ryoga in various background shots) appeared in that other series.
It had been been used more as in-jokes than anything else, the series having different "flavors" and all.
