'Too bad,' Takato sighed as he trotted towards his classroom, backpack on his back. 'I had so many ideas what I could have done with the game next...'
Then he shrugged. 'Oh well! It's not like I can't use it anymore.' He grinned. 'Right after school, I'll rush home and continue creating the next scenario.'
"Hey Takato!" Jeri greeted him when they met in front of class. "Are you daydreaming or what?"
"Huh? Oh, sorry, Jeri. I was just thinking of something..."
"Never mind that now. Takato, something awful has happened yesterday. Rika and Renamon got attacked by Digimon."
Takato blinked. "Well, she does that all the time, right? Fighting Digimon, I mean..."
"Yeah, but this time, she had to fight three Champions at once, and they were controlled by that little Rookie, DemiDevimon or something like that. And they did not only attack Renamon, but Rika as well."
"Well, that's unusual, I admit... Still, it doesn't sound THAT awful."
"That's not everything. You know, Rika..." Just then, the bell rang. "Oh darn! Look, I'll tell you everything during break, okay?"
"Okay, yeah!" he nodded, while they both sat down at their desk.
He wondered just what could have happened that made Jeri worry so much. Rika was one headstrong girl, and not much could happen that would stop her determination to win in battle.
His mind was still wondering about Rika, so he didn't notice that the homeroom teacher, Miss Asaji, had already entered the room.
"Good morning, class!"
"Good morning, Sensei!"
Takato decided to concentrate on class for now, rather than on Rika and Digimon.
He blinked. Where had Sensei vanished to? He knew he had heard her voice.
"Now, let's speak of what we did yesterday... Takato, can you please tell us?"
He rubbed his eyes. Nope, still couldn't see her.
"Takato! Please pay attention to me. I'm down here!"
He lowered his gaze... and looked right into the face of a Floramon.
"GAH!" he shouted in surprise and shuffled backwards with his chair. "How did you get in here?"
The Floramon looked at him alienated. "Through the door, like always? Takato, are you all right?"
Takato shook his head to clear his mind. It couldn't be true, but it was: That little plant Digimon spoke WITH HIS TEACHER'S VOICE!
Oh damn!
"M... Miss Asaji?"
"Yes? What's the matter, Takato? Are you feeling sick? Maybe you should go see the nurse..."
"Should I take him there, Miss Asaji?" a boy's voice came from the back desks. It belonged to Kenta.
"I don't think that's necessary, Kenta," the plant-teacher frowned. "You just want to absent yourself from my class, do you?"
"Awww... but, I could use the nurse's help too, you know? My rock skin feels kinda crumbly..."
STONE SKIN??
Takato spun around while standing up, throwing his chair to the ground. This caused his Floramon teacher to scold him with an angry "TAKATO!", but he didn't listen.
Because, sitting in the back of the room, at Kenta's desk was none other than a smiling Gotsumon. And... the small rock Digimon was wearing Kenta's t-shirt.
And he wasn't the only Digimon in class, Takato noticed by now. Sitting in Miki's place was a ToyAgumon. And was that a Gazimon over there?
Takato gulped. Something was definitely not right here... "Um... Excuse me, Miss Asaji, but I believe I gotta go to the bathroom..."
And he dashed out of the classroom.
Worried, Jeri stood up as well. "Miss Asaji, may I go after Takato? He looks like he needs some help."
"Well... all right, just this once. You are one of his best friends, after all. The rest of you, sit down again... KENTA! Stop throwing those rocks at your classmates, or you'll get extra homework!"
Kenta groaned. "Sheesh..." he muttered towards his pal Kazu. "Can't she take a joke?"
----
Closing the boy's bathroom door behind him, Takato leaned against the wall and panted heavily. Just WHAT was going on there? Everyone acted as if it would be normal for Digimon to sit in class...
A soft knocking on the door. "Takato?" Jeri's voice came from behind it. "Are you okay? Is there anything you want to talk about?"
Composing himself, Takato took a deep breath and stepped out into the corridor.
"Jeri..." he murmured. "In class... did you see what I saw?"
Jeri was taken aback by that question. She scratched her head. "Um... is that some sort of catch question?"
"I'm serious, Jeri! Those Digimon in class... those couldn't be our classmates and Miss Asaji, could they?"
NOW Jeri was worried. "Oh Takato... not you too."
"Me too? What do you mean, me too?"
"Well... I'm afraid Rika has the same problem as you: She can't remember a thing."
"What? She has amnesia?"
"You couldn't say that... she remembers you and me and her family and almost everything, but... she doesn't seem to know that Digimon had been living around humans for years now."
Suddenly, it all made sense. Takato realized where he had heard that before.
He clutched his head. "Oh no, no, no... that can't be true! I mean, it was just some stupid game, right?"
"Takato? What are you talking about?"
Takato turned around to face her. "Jeri, I... I can't really explain, but I have to leave school early today. I have to check something out. Tell Miss Asaji... well, tell her what you want, but I really have to go!"
"B-but what...? Hey, what's the matter? You can't just run off like that and..."
"I'm sorry, Jeri, but I'll explain later! I promise! But I have to go back home!"
"I'm afraid we don't have time for that..." a calm voice said.
Startled, the two kids twirled around.
Takato gasped. Because standing right there, in front of him, was none other than the mysterious Digimon stranger he had created with his game: Ceratomon! The dinosaur warrior was leaning against the wall with folded arms and looked at them from the corner of his eyes.
"Who are you?" Jeri asked. "And what do you mean, we don't have time?"
"I fear that your friends are in grave danger," Ceratomon exclaimed. "The followers of the dark lord are after them, and this time, victory won't be so easy like last time."
He turned around to face them directly. "Your Tamer friend with the Terriermon partner... They are out to get them both, dead or alive!"
Takato realized instantly who he was talking about. "Henry..."
Or was it Harmony now? 'What's happening here?' he wondered. 'Even if this was part of the game, I never created a scene like this. I have to go home and change everything back to normal.'
But first, he had to help his friend.
"Fine," he said. "Let's go! Where are they?"
Ceratomon's helmet hid every trace of emotion on his face. "Your friends are hiding in the tunnels, but I'm afraid that won't help them for long... we must hurry!"
