Hearing the sound of someone else's feet on the floorboards along with Kasumi's as the eldest Tendo returned brought hope for what he wanted to happen. A glimpse of a long leg allowed him to anticipate what was going to happen. And as a tall girl came to stand next to the demure young woman, he was not disappointed.
"Everyone," Kasumi said softly, but happily, to everyone else, "we have another visitor. Makoto has come to visit."
There was much joy around the table as those there took in the green eyed girl. Both of the younger sisters smiled at their friend, Nabiki's light one being more restrained than the way that Akane laughed with pleasure. Ranma didn't need to feign any excitement, and his mother beamed as only a parent could. Even Soun showed some sort of near parental affection for the girl who stood before them.
Only Genma couldn't keep himself from reacting badly. "Yo... you... YOU?!"
"Eh? Is there some sort of problem, Saotome?" his old friend asked. "I know that that having my daughter's sparring partner and friend show up so unexpectedly is odd, but still...."
"Oh, Tendo, you don't know. The things.... The things...."
"You're not making sense."
"I'm sorry old friend. It's just that this is such a shock...."
Nabiki leaned her chin into her palm and gave the Saotome patriarch a bland look. "You mean that you'd prefer to not be pile drived into the ground again. Especially by a girl who can lift your bulky behind over her head, but doesn't look like she can."
"That's ri.... How did you know about that?! I never told...."
"Didn't you hear Daddy-dearest? She's a family friend. She told us."
"She did?"
"That's what I just told you, isn't it? To think that you can miss a simple, and clear, explanation. Of course, you were the one that told her that you didn't think that she could fight."
"I meant for her to spar, at most," Genma muttered sourly, crossing his arms over his chest. "I didn't expect for her to lose control like that."
"You told her that you thought that she was 'too big of a girl to be play fighting'."
"Hold on here. You mean to say that Makoto knew my old friend, and you never told me?" Soun asked, sounding rather put out by the idea.
"Yes, Daddy. But it might be your own fault for that."
"Why would that be?"
"Simple. You never told us that you knew him, so we never had a reason to bring it up."
"That's...."
Nodoka sighed and sipped from her cup of tea as the Tendo patriarch stumbled about for something to say. "I do have to say that I didn't expect this event to become such... an event."
"Sorry about that. I didn't mean to disrupt things when I came," Makoto murmured, ducking her head slightly.
"There's nothing to apologize for, my dear. If anything else, it was these two old men who caused the problems."
"Hey!" the two fathers chorused.
"Were you two not the ones who didn't mention knowing each other?"
"Well... yes...." Soun admitted.
"And didn't you keep your little plan for today to yourselves?"
Genma looked pained as he looked to his wife. "Yes, dear, but there are good reasons for that."
"Which led people to walk right past your plans, not realizing what you wanted from them as you blindly expected everything to fall into line."
"Yes, that's...."
"Hmm?" the redheaded matriarch murmured as she raised a brow at the man who she was married to.
Both fathers hung their heads and looked chagrined, while:
