Ash spotted a bike laying on the ground and the Pokeball that he had just tossed. As he grabbed the ball, he spotted a discharged Water Stone and a discharged Fire Stone. It looked like an evolution case had been spilled. One each of a Sun, Moon, Leaf, and Thunder Stone were also lying on the ground.
Grabbing his Pokeball, Ash chased after Pikachu. "A Water or Fire Pokemon. Hopefully I got a Fire Pokemon. I hope that Trainer gets back to his bike soon"
As he ran along, he spotted Professor Birch.
"Any luck, Ash?" he called out.
"Pikachu is heading in that direction."
Ash spotted Pikachu trying to jump off a cliff. Ash dove and quickly caught Pikachu before he did. He held onto the struggling Pikachu, as Pikachu bit him.
"Pikachu. Easy," Ash said.
A bit of Pikachu's fever broke a bit and he looked up into Ash's face.
"Pikapi?"
"Let's get you back to the lab and healed. Okay?" Ash said.
Pikachu just licked the wound that he inflicted upon Ash. Before anymore could be said, a giant robot battery appeared. One of Team Rocket's mecha had appeared.
They went into their spiel, but Jesse wasn't too enthusiastic about it. They sank into their robot and used it to snag Pikachu.
Meowth called, "Now we'll just drain Pikachu's energy so he can't shock us."
Professor Birch and Ash watched as the mecha did just that. Close to the top of the mecha's energy reservoirs, Pikachu snapped to his senses and gave an evil smirk.
Ash called, "Pikachu's better. Pikachu, Thunder!"
Pikachu laid into the mecha with Thunder. The mecha blew up and Team Rocket was blasted into the sky again. Ash couldn't hear what they were saying, as they blasted off. Pikachu made some noises in Team Rocket's direction, before fainting.
"Pikachu," Ash said, as he dashed forward.
"We'll get him back to our lab and check him out," Birch said.
Ash nodded. "By the way, Professor. I think some kid lost his bike."
"Oh."
"I'll show you."
The two came to the bike and stones. Ash pointed the two discharged stones out.
"I think when Pikachu was trying to shock me, he hit a Pokemon that was using one of those two stones to evolve," Ash said.
Professor Birch gathered the remaining stones stuffed them into a case that was in a side basket. He quickly set the bike upright and looked at it.
"This is May's bike," Birch said. "I'll bring it back to the lab. She might have gone back to get a Pokemon. I'll want to check that new Pokemon of yours out."
Ash nodded, as Birch walked the bike back to the lab. Birch and his assistant quickly did a checkup on Pikachu.
"That machine of Team Rocket's rid Pikachu of all his unneeded electricity. A good night's sleep and Pikachu will be fine," Birch said.
Ash smiled, "That's great, Professor."
Birch said, "Now we had better take a look at that new Pokemon of yours."
Ash tossed the ball releasing the Pokemon. Everyone was shocked when a girl about Ash's age appeared out of the ball. She was wearing tight red top with orange trim. She was also wearing blue shorts that appeared to be made out of Lycra. Her tennis shoes were red with orange trim and the socks were light blue. She was also wearing a yellow belt back with pouches held behind her.
Professor Birch and his assistant cried out in unison. "May!"
Stepping back a bit, Ash stammered, "What's going on? How did....?"
May shook her head in confusion, as she looked around. "That was a weird dream. I dreamt that I was caught by a Pokeball."
Birch cleared his throat. "That was no dream, May"
May asked, "What do you mean it was no dream?"
Birch pointed to a table. "May, please get up on the table. I need to examine you."
After doing a medical examination, Birch sighed heavily. May and Ash were getting more and more nervous.
Looking at May, Birch said, "For all intents and purposes, May. You are a Pokemon. As to how..."
May, frightened, exclaimed, "How? How could this happen? I thought Pokeballs didn't work on people!"
"Calm down, May," Birch said, as he took the Quick Ball from Ash. "My best guess is that when Pikachu overloaded with electricity hit you and the Fire and Water Stone of your Evolution Kit caused you to change into a Pokemon. Add in the additional factor of a custom made Pokeball of Kurt's into the mix and we have the situation we are in now."
May stared at the Quick Ball and then at Ash. "You're the person who caught me?"
"Uh. Sorry," Ash said.
"Sorry?" May said. "What am I going to do?"
Birch handed Ash back the Quick Ball. "There's nothing I can do May. I study Pokemon in their natural habitat. I don't study evolution."
Ash muttered, "I hope Gary makes a lot of breakthroughs soon."
May glared at Ash. "Who is Gary?"
"Gary Oak," Ash quickly replied. "He is Professor Samuel Oak's grandson. He decided to become a Pokemon researcher specializing in evolution."
May sat back pouting. "Just what kind of Pokemon am I?"
Birch shrugged. "I'm not sure yet."
Ash pulled out his Pokedex and pointed it at May.
"Pokemon Species: no data on file. Type: Fire/Water. Nickname: May Attacks: Sunny Day, Rain Dance, Ember, Water Gun Level: 5."
May muttered, "I came here to start a Pokemon Journey. I thought I was going to be the Trainer, not the Pokemon."
Glaring a bit more at Ash, May said, "By the way, Master. What is your name?"
"Ash. Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town. I didn't mean to turn you into a Pokemon. You don't have to call me 'Master'."
May spoke to Professor Birch, "Professor, could you see that my bike gets home?"
Birch nodded. "What about your evolution kit?"
May through her hands up in the air. "I have no need of it anymore. Give it to my Trainer."
Birch picked up the kit and handed it to Ash. "I think we all need to get a good night's sleep."
May sighed, "I might as well get used to being in a Pokeball."
Ash blushed, as he held up the Quick Ball. "May, Return."
"I came to catch new and interesting Pokemon in this region," Ash mumbled.
"Be careful what you wish for."
Ash nodded and headed for bed.
The next morning, Ash saw that Pikachu was better and quickly brought Pikachu up to date on current events.
"May, I choose you," Ash said, as he released his new Pokemon.
Pikachu sat down in shock.
May sighed, as she looked at Ash. "Ash, I'm sorry for being so snippy last night. This was not what I expected."
Ash twiddled his fingers in embarrassment, as May whispered to herself, "At least I'll be able to see new places. Although, traveling via Pokeball was not high on my list of travel plans."
Professor Birch came out and saw May.
"Good morning, May. How are you feeling?" Birch said.
"Weird. I feel like I'm filled with energy and...." May shook her head.
Professor Birch handed May a journal and pen. "May, this is a rare opportunity. You can write down just what a Pokemon feels like, compared to a human. It would help a lot of research efforts, if you could do so."
May grimaced as she took the items and stuffed them in her belt pack
She thought, "Just what I need to do, write a book called My Life as a Pokemon."
Birch said, "After you leave, I'm going to have to call your father and let him know what happened."
May paled. "Why? I mean, can't we not tell him."
Birch looked on May with sympathy. "May, you're a Pokemon now. Sooner or later, your parents will find out about it. At least this way, you and your parents will have time to get used to the idea."
May bowed her head. "I guess it's time to go, Master."
Ash held up May's Pokeball and recalled her. "Why did she call me 'Master' again?"
Birch replied, "She's upset. When she's calm, she can fight the compulsion to address you as 'Master'. When she's angry, crying, or any feeling any other strong emotion, she'll call you 'Master'."
"Ah."
Birch clapped a hand down on Ash's shoulder. "Now you take care of her. A good Trainer might make her a great Pokemon."
Looking down at the Quick Ball, Ash said, "I'll try."
After Ash left, Birch absently knocked a book of Pokemon legends off a table. The book fell open to a picture of a single unidentifiable Pokemon holding a red orb and a blue orb and Ho-oh flying overhead.
