Every wizard needed a staff. They were useful things, staves - walking sticks, foci, levers, braces, spell storage device, trap-testing pole, weapon, vaulting-pole... Many, many uses. Suitable for a weapon held common for a diverse group that did many things.
Or, at least, those were the thoughts of Shador'mei, a paradoxical God of Shadow, Chaos, and Time (How he got both Chaos and the ever orderly Time he can't figure out himself) who loved wandering throughout reality and nudging things here and there. He liked the look of this fledgling kingdom, even if it was far from his normal haunts and native section of reality. So, to see it last so as to garner entertainment from it, he'd give Ranma a gift to help him defend it. And, as he was a mage without a staff...
But, given all the things they could be used for, a staff could break. So, as with all Artifacts (For nothing short would do for a god's gift), he'd just give it a specific destruction condition. Then soul-bond it to the boy so he couldn't lose it, and could call it to him if he was disarmed. So... Given the boy's will, he had the perfect condition... Its user would have to commit suicide with the stave!
What shape to give it? Hmmm... Well, shape was easy. He'd just steal the design from the sketches of one of his priesthood, who idly doodled weapons for stories and such that he never finished. This design looked to be based more upon his Shadow portfolio, but meh. A 6' shaft of obsidian-like crystal, with unequally spaced silver bands up it's length and a cap of black silver on the bottom. The top was capped in with a Marquise cut gem, one that radiated a mist of Shadow, held in place by four prongs of silver that showed through the haze.
Names, names... How horrible he was at naming things. He'd leave it and base them upon it's abilities.
Onto those abilities... Or scrap it and start anew?
