"You said the Tendos own a martial arts dojo, isn't that right?" the Wool Puk asked Snooze Puk.
"Yes," Snooze Puk nodded. "The Tendos as well as the Saotomes are what you could call 'martial artist families'. Both fathers, as well as Ranma and Akane are passable fighters, from what I heard."
"Good," the Wool Puk nodded. "I already asked the local birds, and they told me that there's an unusual amount of martial artists living here in Nerima. More than often they had various fights, and this Ranma boy seems to be the one person who's involved with most of them. But, strangely enough, there hasn't been a real tournament around here. Some fighters have made official challenges, but that's it. So I wondered: Why not invite all the fighters we know about to a tournament for the purpose of supporting the Tendo and Saotome families financially?"
"A tournament?" the Newspaper Puk asked. "That's big news!"
"Aw, shaddup with your news already..." Naggy Puk grumbled.
The Chief Puk called for order. "Sounds like an intriguing plan, Wool Puk. Please, explain in detail what you have in mind."
"It's easy, really," the Wool Puk said. "We Puks write the invitations to this contest, in which we tell all of the fighters we know the place and the time of the event. I'm sure the Tendos will be able to handle the organization of everything once they realize what's it about."
"Nabiki's a smart girl, she'll figure it out," Snooze Puk said confidently.
"Right," the Wool Puk nodded. "There's no real prize to be won, just the title of the 'strongest fighter in the neighborhood'. From what I heard, most of those young fighters are satisfied with such a prize."
"But where should the money come from?" Snooze Puk asked. "Should the participants pay before entering the contest?"
"I think I know what the Wool Puk has planned," the Bank Puk spoke up. "The ones who will pay the money will be the spectators... such a big fight will definitely attract attention. In in a community such as Nerima, there are likely many people that are enthusiastic about such tournaments."
"That might just work," the Chief Puk nodded and stroked his beard.
"And I'll put the invitations into the mailman's bag before he goes and delivers the mail tomorrow morning," the Post Puk shouted.
"But still, even after that tournament, we still won't know who withdrew all that money from the Tendo's bank account illegally," the Library Puk considered.
"Helping the Tendos and Saotomes regain some money is more urgent now," the Chief Puk decided. "We will try to find the perpetrator when the tournament is over and we can be sure that the Tendos don't have to sell their house."
Everyone agreed with that.
And afterwards, they sat together to come up with a useable text for the invitations. The Library Puk sat down at one of the library's computers, where he wrote the letters. He typed using his fists, while Snooze Puk operated the computer's mouse. They wrote one letter for every household in Nerima in which at least one martial artist was living. After printing them out, the Puks put the invitations into envelopes.
"That's it," the Post Puk nodded after they put the final invitation into its envelope. "I'll take those with me and mix them up with the daily mail. The mailman will take them with him without noticing anything, and he will deliver them just like the normal mail. I might have to call a few more pigeons to carry them to the post office, though..."
"We'll leave everything to you," the Chief Puk nodded. "And I'd like to ask Snooze Puk to tell us at once when the Tendos and Saotomes learn about the tournament."
"Sure." Snooze Puk nodded.
"I hereby close our Extraordinary Puk Meeting! Grits Greeting!"
"Grits Greeting!" the Puks shouted.
----
On the roof of the library, the Puks were waiting for their pigeons. The Post Puk has asked his pigeon to fetch a few more birds to help him with the transport of the invitations.
"Oh yeah, I wanted to ask you something," the Skyscraper Puk then said to Snooze Puk. "This Ranma boy... he's the only son of the Saotome family, right? So, is one of the Tendo girls his fiancee, maybe?"
Snooze Puk thought about it, then shook his head. "I doubt it. Nabiki's not really the type to have a boyfriend or fiance. Kasumi's more like a big sister to him. And Akane... well... they way she and Ranma yell at each other all the time, I seriously doubt that they are interested in each other."
"And Ranma is the only child of the Saotomes, right?" the Skyscraper Puk went on. "That makes him the only heir to the Saotome school, right?"
"I think so, yeah! But why do you ask?"
"Oh, I was just curious," the Skyscraper Puk replied evasively.
Not only the Wool Puk had good ideas. He had one as well. But the Skyscraper Puk wanted to plot his own plan by himself.
The pigeons arrived and the Puks bid their farewells.
Snooze Puk flew back home and went straight to bed. But he decided to wake up at twelve o'clock to see if the Tendos already knew about the tournament by then, just in case.
And when a Puk decides to wake up at a certain time, he will wake up at that time. That was one of the abilities of the Puks which humans would like to have as well...
