Chained World: Mahoro [Episode 183350]

by Kestral

It had fallen to Earth and been in the Antarctic for centuries. They'd found it and uncovered some of the secrets. Not all though. Not nearly all.

Androids had been developed using the technology of the damaged unit codenamed Lillith. The best unit they'd developed was Mahoro. There was just one little problem regarding her energy reserves and ability to recharge.

Once combat abilities had been proven in a variety of environments and a long running war, it was determined that a quiet retirement for the unit was desirable. The people of the village were sentimental, and fond of the unit, and the boy seemed a good match.

"You're sure of the results?" asked one of the scientists.

"I've gone over them three times," responded the second scientist. "I'm getting the same results every time."

"It couldn't be problems with your equipment, could it?" asked a third scientist.

"I've used both sets of testing equipment, and had the techs go over one of them," said the second scientist. "The results haven't altered."

"So what is it? Magic?" asked the first scientist. The three winced at that. Oh, it wasn't that they didn't know magic existed. It did. Some of Mahoro's enemies used it for a variety of effects. It was just it didn't make much sense to them or lend itself well to laboratory testing and dissemination.

"It has to be," admitted the second scientist. "She SHOULD have less than forty hours left on her operating system. She had just over one year when she left."

"That's why she was to be left here for 'maintenance'," said the first scientist. "Not that I'm complaining. Mahoro seems happy and doing well. Except for that damage we repaired."

"And she still has over a year left," pointed out the third. "We couldn't recharge her, for all OUR science. Her life-energy should be nearly depleted, but instead this boy somehow recharged her."

"I asked Mahoro directly about it," said the second scientist, clearly reluctant to say more.

"And?" prompted the first scientist.

"He apparently noticed her reservoir depleting after a battle with some yoma-ninja in Southern Japan," said the second scientist. "He found a way to recharge her chi with his own."

The three scientists considered that, each reacting in their own way.

"The implications..." said the first scientist. "Well, if we want her to continue to live, clearly the two can't go their separate ways."

"And we DO," said the first scientist. "Mahoro was a big help. She saved lives - not only of our staff but of civilians in harms way. She chose to reward the boy when he helped us out herself by becoming his maid. It appears she helped herself as well. Not that we or she had any way of knowing it at that time."

"Well, we can try something," said the third scientist. "Let's-"
