Webs: At last a chance to talk... [Episode 183971]

by Thrythlind

Firefighters threw themselves at the burning building, cascading it in water and making quick forays into its domain to pull out the helpless victims within.

Spider-Man was an unexpected, but not unwelcome addition as he pulled one trapped citizen out and then, after a brief discussion with the police, went back for another.

That was when Spider-Man found that the second victim was somewhat more than helpless.

"Now, perhaps we'll have a chance to talk, eh Spider?" the Goblin demanded as he looked toward where Spider-Man had leaped away from his attack.

Kodachi sat at the desk she had set up in the Estate's under-tended greenhouse and looked around her at the state of the building. She frowned as she realized that she was going to have to do something about this green-house eventually. Sooner rather than later, actually.

Then she looked down and started to work. Behind her, a laptop was running the local news and showing the results of several searches, which Kodachi would occasionally look over to reference and initiate a new search, or perhaps bookmark a website.

Very carefully, she set aside the small glass marbles and their potentially volatile contents as she started work on another set of marbles. Halfway through each one, she set in a small marble and then half-filled the item with water.

Kodachi looked at each completed marble very carefully before setting it into a dispensing canister designed to prevent impact from shattering the fragile items.

By the time she was finished, she had three tubes of the deceptively harmless seeming glass marbles, each with four projectiles. Though she couldn't think of a time she'd really want to have all twelve of those on her possession at once, the potential danger was...humbling.

The next item to be worked on were a set of slender dart-like shuriken with a rose motif etched into the surface. Like many such weapons, these were hollow and could be filled with any of a number of harmful chemicals. In this case, Kodachi was using a strong anesthetic, something to numb a limb, or, hopefully a whole body.

There were dangers with such drugs, of course. Reactions couldn't always be accurately predicted, after all. For most people, it would leave them paralyzed and out of action. Some, like her would probably metabolize one or two injections with no problem. Then there were people that would die with the first. Still, it was an overall better option than overall lethal means.

She set twelve of the darts into each of the two armlets she was adding. That would put them in easy reach without getting in the way of her spinnerettes.

Kodachi didn't have to worry about replacing her ribbon, her webbing did alright for that. Surprisingly, it made a decent set of clubs as well, though that took longer than was practical for when she would suddenly develop a need for it. Bolos, stones, lassos, nets and such thing could be reproduced with the right application of webbing.

Then she turned to her costume.

Unfortunately, she couldn't do much with that. She wanted it light to allow for concealment, and though she could add some light kevlar to a few vital locations, it probably wouldn't add enough protection to really make it worthwhile though.

She glanced over to the computer again and paused, taking interest in something that was there.

"That's actually not far from here," she thought to herself. "I think there is a train that goes in that general direction."

"Think about it, Spider-Man," the Goblin ranted. "All those teeming masses out there want to keep us down, keep us mediocre, when we were born to rule over the lot of them."

"You're insane, Goblin!" Peter shouted, dodging a punch as the Goblin danced around in the fire.

Peter advanced as he could, recognizing that the Goblin was mostly holding back and avoiding so that he could "talk" to Spider-Man and continue to portray his concept of the perfect world. One ruled by him with Spider-Man at his right hand.

"Just think about it," the Goblin said, leaping out of the building to leave Spider-Man inside to let the thoughts come to a boil.

It didn't take long for Spider-Man to find his way out, but by then the Goblin was nowhere to be seen.
