"Providing I survive," said Ranma, looking down. Jump down from a two-story building - no problem. Five floors up could be a problem. Approximately 20,000 feet? Problem.
Seeing that Ren was falling too, Ranma decided to angle towards her.
Not that he thought he could do much about her falling. He was kinda stuck in that problem himself.
When he reached her, he was ready for a lot of reactions. Clinging on to him was not one of them. "EH?!"
"I..." Ren loosened slightly so she could reach up. "Doesn't this frighten you?"
"Well, yeah," said Ranma, glancing down. "This is kinda further than I've fallen before. Mind you, the tomboy that wished me DEAD knocked me a few good ones. This is... oh hey, is that an island?"
"You DO realize that both of us are going to die in a painfully messy manner," said Ren.
"The possibility DID cross my mind," admitted Ranma watching another layer of clouds approaching. Why was this gal looking like she was struggling with some decision?
Ren met Ranma's eyes. She didn't really want to do this. People were so unreliable, power-hungry, ready to use weapons they didn't understand for causes they seldom thought about. On the other hand, their current situation was not his fault and they WERE going to go splat. She didn't like 'splat'. While her spirit would remerge with the Elemental Plane Of Air, that meant her individual mortal existence would be gone. "Will you contract?"
"Excuse me?" asked Ranma, now that they were inside the cloud he could give more attention to the girl whose face was less than an inch away from him. She also still had that death-grip on him.
"Will you accept my power?" asked Ren, thinking that this might be a mistake - even considering the alternative.
"Uhm. Sure, I guess," said Ranma, wondering if it could help.
Ren had a little trouble but reached up and scratched his cheek with one nail, then made the necessary arc to invoke the circle.
"Spinning together in the ephemeral night
Thoughts expressed in shining jewel-like eyes
Slowly concealed, revealed."
Ranma started looking around. They were still in a cloud, but it FELT as if they had slowed down.
"let us be brought together and exchange,
as long as we both shall live,
clad in turbulent wind,
our vow of souls intertwined."
"They fell that way!" said Cisqua, jumping from the burning ship to the more intact craft.
"Like they had a freaking choice," said Kuea. "So what was so important you blew cover to message us?"
"AND used up our last remaining message-crystals," pointed out Rowan as he took the airship into a dive.
"She's not only an Edel Raid, an elemental spirit bound to human form - she's a Metherlance," said Cisqua. "The last remaining one."
"Wow," said Rowan. "That would get us back in with the Authority."
"Bonuses! Promotion! Bigger Paychecks!" said Cisqua. "None of which will matter if we don't find them."
"What's that... a blue glow?!" asked Kuea. "Oh crap. If that means they bonded..."
"Edel Raids like you have some powers in addition to being able to change into weapon forms," said Cisqua to the brownskinned leather-and-chain wearing Kuea. "If she's Fire or Stone there isn't much she could do about a fall anyway."
"She's air," said Rowan definitively.
"How do you know?" asked Cisqua, wondering if that was in a class she'd slept through.
ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
"Oh," said Cisqua. "EVASIVE!"
adjust your trim
"My WHAT?" asked Ranma. "Hey, I'm flying!"
try not to hit the plane
"Oh," said Ranma, zipping past the idiots who had blown up his plane.
I can only provide flight for a short period, and then only when we are merged.
Ranma caught sight of a spectral image of Ren next to him, but it was weird how he could feel her. That and the telepathy bit was weird. "Short time, huh. Well then -"
