And then there was Usagi.
To tell the truth, she wasn't all that bad of a child. In fact, if there was one blessed with kindness of spirit, and openness of heart, it was her. That suited her well as a novice cleric, as she couldn't even manage to be truly mean even when she was angry. Instead, she seemed to be a bit... cute, and never managed to be very stern.
The problem with her was that she had to be the clumsiest novice in the whole monastery. Some initiates had problems with coordination, but she took it to a whole other level at times. When training, she'd managed to slam her elbow into the trainee behind her, and when she'd been apologizing for that mistake, she'd accidentally stomped onto the feet of no less than three people. A normal day's walk could be a problem too, as she'd wound up dropping scrolls down the stairs that she'd been walking on another time. She didn't do it on purpose, but it did have to make one where Lady Luck was looking when the girl could find a way to walk into the wall next to the door that she'd been aiming for, as she had when greeting friends had distracted her.
It wasn't a regular thing, but she did have enough incidents so that it made some wonder if 'Drunken Fist', or a variation of it, would be best for her. Others then pointed out that doing something like that might make it worse, and the idea was shelved for the time being. What was odd was that she was particularly strong willed, with the ability to show some real strength at key moments. If someone, or something that she cared for was in danger, she was the first one to go to defend them, sometimes willing to put herself into danger. Now, this might have been a somewhat foolhardy thing for her to do, but it was actually where she tended to shine. Only when the situation wasn't exactly serious would she have a tendency to fall into some expression of clumsiness, which made the teachers shake their heads.
Well, there was also her dedication to a certain young boy who was already popular with the ladies, despite his age. When she looked towards Ranma, she had an expression that one monk could only describe as 'sparkly eyed'. Anyone who'd seen her around him could tell that she considered him to be the best thing since oil lamps. Heck, there were times when a few people had sworn that they could see her imagining a wedding day with him.
All of it had started one day when she'd been working with some local animals. Some of the fighting styles did call for an animal companion, and there was a lot that other animals could do in a place like this. She just liked having them around, and most of them tended to like her instinctually. Of course, that didn't mean that they didn't tend to want to jump on her when she brought them food, so she'd been a bit surprised, and ready to stumble when they got excited. However, she'd been caught before she could fall to the ground, and when she'd looked behind her, she'd caught sight of the bluest eyes that she'd ever seen, and been lost.
Now she was always looking to enjoy their times together. She was his cheerleader, friend, and groupie, all in one, and if she could have, she would have become his fiancee as well. Not that she was looking to run into anything, but she was a romantic at heart, and in her judgement, he was perfect for those sorts of roles. With that black mane of hair, those sapphire eyes, and that spirit of his, he had enough to make even a little girl's heart go 'thump thump' in her chest. Much of what an 'adult' relationship would entail escaped her at the moment, but she certainly had fantasies of him and her growing to be really close to each other.
In other words, she had a major crush on him, and would certainly like to be not only his 'childhood sweetheart', but his 'one and only'. The funny thing was that she tended to not think about what being a cleric would call for, not because she dismissed it, but due to the fact that she'd get so caught up in her daydreams from time to time that she would forget what she was supposed to be doing.
If she didn't see him for some time, she might not go 'ga-ga' over his memories for that period, but she certainly did have a tendency to giggle when he was around. She wasn't a stupid girl, or one that was too emotional, but there were moments when common sense did seem to leave her. And she did have plenty of accidents when she did get to be near him.
It never occurred to her that she was also an extraordinarily lovely child, but then one tended to be blind to some things, while:
