Ranko looked out of the cave that had become her magic laboratory a couple years ago shortly after Ganondorf took the throne, The reason for her having a magic laboratory in a cave with a good view of Jabu-Jabu’s lake wasn’t that she was on his side that she was on his side of course. The reason was actually the opposite. A complete accident causing Ranko to form a magical ball of pure chaos energy brought attention to that she might be able to protect the Zora’s with that magic. But something like that always has a price... The price in this case was that the chaotic energy ‘’decided’’ to emit a arua of evil and transform her body a bit, including a thing that really get Ranko angry. It wasn’t that she was beginning to use the infamous ‘OOHHOHOHOHO!’ laugh without being able to stop herself whenever she was laughed, It was...
"Why did the magic demand this?" was Ranko’s thoughts she looked at her body which now looked more like black leather in color instead of the white-blue that Zora’s usually were. That wasn’t the thing that was the problem really, it was just a change in skin color after all. The real problem was....
"Why did it have to take my male body away?" said Ranko as tears started to form in her eyes, She had accepted that she was Ranma and Ranko but she wasn't ready to become just Ranko.
Chaos can never be understood and it had ‘’decided’’ on making Ranko look like some kind of evil Zora sorceress, fortunately it seemed unable to affect her mind more than that annoying laugh. Atleast that was what she and everyone else hoped... After all, Those Zora shaped black masses with glowing red eyes were not something you wanted to suddenly turn on you because of that you protector turned evil suddenly. But they weren’t without flaws either of course, Since they had orders to protect Zora’s domain and the Water Temple they didn’t allow ANYONE, Not even the royal family of the Zora’s, to pass if Ranko wasn’t on the spot to order them. While the Zora realised there was no point in leaving since they were relatively safe in their home and the Lake Hylia was protected it had the effect that some wannabe heros had meet their end after feeling the new arua of Ranko and attempted to charge Zora’s domain to defeat whoever it was they felt in hope that he or she was weaker than Ganondorf. This in turn made the monster attacks stop since Ganondorf didn’t wish for a power struggle with someone else with the same plans
-he was fooled by the arua too and that in combination that it seemed as if the ‘’heros’’ weren’t spared by whoever was in control made him believe it was someone with the same plan as he-
so he decided on keeping the exits under watch and trying to get the power needed to force whoever had taken control in the Zora’s domain to swear allegiance to him.
Of course, When Ranko decided to travel to Kakariko Village to try to explain... the results weren’t exactly was she had hoped for..

It was a peaceful day in Kakariko Village, at least as peaceful as it was possible with Ganondorf rampaging throughout Hyrule, but one thing disturbed the peace. The powerful evil force ANYONE could feel had left Zora’s domain and was heading for the village. So one can under stand that the Village was in a state of panic. They had enough problems with Ganondorf, they didn't need another person, -be it Hylian, Gerudo, Zora or Goron- , causing trouble in Hyrule.
As Ranko climbed the path up to the Village she saw Impa standing there with Akane behind her and thought for a second that this could be settled since Akane knew that she wasn't evil but her hopes were crushed when she heard what Akane said, "It's her, The oldest Princess of the Zora's, mom. I can't believe she turned evil" "I remember what you told me Akane so stay back while I take care of her, There is no mistaking the evil surrounding her. She must have become even worse than Ganondorf is" said Impa not taking her eyes of Ranko for a second in fear of that the ''evil Zora'' would attack and charged towards Ranko as soon as she had finished speaking. "W-wait!" was all Ranko had time to say as she was forced to dodge Impa at the last second and out of reflex created a ball of chaos that would stun Impa that sent her flying into the rock walls causing her to start bleeding from the back of her head. "You, YOU MONSTER!" Screamed Akane when she ran towards Ranko who was forced to run back to the Zora's Domain and cried knowing that nothing short of beating Ganondorf and maybe not even that was going to redem her in their eyes now.

Fortunately there was no permanent damage done to Impa but she assumed that it was done with the intention to make her die slowly and in pain. Luckily they knew that attacking in retaliation would doom them but it didn't change the fact that the view the outside now had was that Ranko had learned magic and taken over Zora's domain with force.
The Zora's knew that no matter how the strange chaos magic affected their princess she would never do something like the outside world believed she had.... They hoped...
The days after that the rumours somehow found their way in about just where the strange Zora shaped things came from, That Ranko took Zora's soul in their sleep and used them. That rumour was quickly killed by Ranko creating one in front of everyone but that didn't mean that the rumours outside of Zora's domain died becuse of that.
"Airen no worry, find permanent way to get body back soon!" Said the Gerudo girl that had managed to sneak past the guards, Shampoo.
You might wonder why she is calling Ranko Airen but it is actually a simple story, Ganondorf had wanted to send a strong warrior that could hopefully negotiate with Ranko after finding out about the ''attack'' on one of the remaining threats to Ganondorf.
But when she managed to sneak past the guards and into Ranko's cave Ranko saw who it was leading to explanations. And of course Shampoo, Who wasn't loyal to Ganondorf in the first place, decided to help Ranko with gathering information out in the world for her and hopefully find a way to get Ranko back her male body. The only one's allowed to know about Shampoo were the royal family though since the explanations that would be needed to stop anyone from thinking up strange conspiracy theories would be impossible to explain so it would be believable.
There was that spell of course that makes it possible to change shape but Ranko can only use it for half a day before the drain starts affecting the guards and they starts looking for other sources of energy... Everyone still tries to make themselves seem small and weak when one walks by since that happened...
