"You set up a course to study other styles of powers for extra credit?" Jessica asked Jetx bani Shaea. The ersatz fairy princess checked her words.
"Sure. It's been some time since the Event. Project X has agreed along with the Gramarye Council. It'll be a great way to trade techniques, interest potential apprentices, display styles, and sell items."
"Most of the mages, martial artists, genius scientists, normal scientists, cyborgs, mutants-"
"I get it," she interrupted.
"It's a great way to expose ourselves to different viewpoints."
"Which style is on first?"
"We have Eriol Hiiragizawa discussing the Clow Cards. Sakura Cards are different. He thinks it's time Sakura got an exposure to other styles of magic. He will be expounding upon Clow Reed's style of magic since he's the half the reincarnation of the master who created that style in a past life."
"The creation of the Cards were a synthesis of Eastern and Western magic that formed the the basis of an entirely new type of wizardry. The theory behind the Cards is symbol. Find or create a magical personification of the power one wishes to emulate and then bind it in a card. The magic is fueled by the wielder of the cards or in an emergency, the deck has a magical energy reserve. The process is theoretically identical to binding a spirit and using it's powers to help you through whichever pact you make. Then the spirit uses it's powers at a predetermined trigger. Otherwise an unbound spirit will do as they please."
Jetx raised a hand.
"What if a chosen Card Captor wanted to make new cards with new powers?"
"They have to find or create a new spirit with the powers they wanted to use and then bind it with their own power," Eriol answered.
"Does the presence of a Node affect the magic in any manner?"
"No. It's designed specifically to work with either the wielder's energy or the deck's energy reserve. There are usually other security features included."
"Why the need for a talisman such as the wand?" asked a young kid in a green floppy hat. "It's a focusing aid. It's a lot easier to capture a card when the power is being narrowcast. Broadcasting power will diffuse the power. It also interacts with the powers of the card spirits, so the wand is changed into a sword or given wings.""Can an ordinary person learn this type of magic?" a brown-haired man with a laser pistol at his side asked.
"Technically, only people with talent have the ability to capture cards."
"Would a different species have an effect?" a duck asked.
"Only humans have wielded this power so far."
"How does one measure the improvement of this type of magic?" a red-haired sorceress inquired.
"Measurement of improvement is by increased magical capacity, and by altering the cards to run off the caster's personal energy and slowly decrease dependence on the deck's inherent energy reserve."
"What's the purpose of the circle pattern that shows up whenever Sakura uses magic?"
"It's a magical resonance, how one manifests their magic to other users."
"What about tactical considerations?" a white-haired sorcerer grinned.
"It's beyond the scope of the Clow magic seminar."
"He's done a great job by coming by. Please look at the program for our next speaker. Unless there's more questions?"
