The machines stared at the boy, analyzing the patterns of energy they were detecting from him.
He would be a perfect source of fuel for them.
But they could not move at him. No, he was showing the same signs and abilities as the main human support for Zero One, the former machine nation before the Great War.
But such was impossible. He had been injured beyond even the technology at the time to save him, when the United Nations attacked 01.
But here he was, standing before them, clothes tattered, hands filled with a glowing and visible amount of bio-energy, prepared to fight back if the machines made any threatening moves towards him.
One slowly began to alter its appearance, trying to generate a vocal synthesizer. “State your identity,” it said.
The human blinked at it. Had it understood at all?
“You speak Japanese?” asked the human slowly, its English rough and barely refined enough to be understandable through the accent.
The machine accessed the language database used for the Matrix program, finally finding the protocols it needed.
“State your identity,” it said once more in synthesized Japanese.
The human nodded. “I’m Ranma Saotome of the Anything Goes School of Martial Arts!,” he loudly proclaimed. “Who’re you?”
The machines began to communicate among themselves, the voice patterns being analyzed by the Source.
“You have a curse that alters your specified gender, based on water temperature?”
Ranma blinked. “How’d ya know about that?”
The machines waited patiently for a reply from the Source on what to do. The Ranma Saotome who had supported 01 had shown many of the same characteristics as this one.
Finally, the Source responded.
“You will follow us,” stated the machine, as it turned towards the Machine City.
Ranma blinked. “Why?”
“The Source wishes to converse further with you.”
Ranma slowly relaxed his guard, as he followed the lumbering insect-like machine towards the giant city in the distance. “Maybe they got some food there,” he muttered, looking at the clouds in the sky with trepidation. That many clouds just couldn’t be good in his opinion.
