Also looking almost completely normal for her new species was Nabiki Tendo, who was a member of the species aquila chrysaetos japonica also known as a golden eagle. Perfectly normal for the species in appearance, except for the coloration which in Nabiki's case included a more golden coloration than was normal.
Nabiki envied Akane that Akane could use hands. Akane, on the other hand, couldn't fly.
Flying wasn't something that Nabiki did a whole lot of anyway. While it was unlikely that someone would shoot her down, she did have to worry about a few other sort of things that might occur.
One such thing had been that the Yakuza group had desired loyal and obedient animals. Nabiki, had someone not interfered, could have become a decoration in an office or a courier for small packages. Over time, the compulsion to belong might have broken her.
Still, she was basically three feet/one meter from her tail to her powerful and sharp beak. Her wingspan was over six feet. She weighed perhaps twelve pounds total. When she went after prey (which had been sudden and instinctive and had ended with her feeding off a rat who had crossed a field while she was testing her wings) she had reached a dizzying speed of 200mph or so.
She could write with her feet, but it was a clumsy thing and not particularly easy for her.
Most days she settled for sitting atop the roof of the Tendo home and watching the world around her.
