The scene is a familiar one. A moment in infamy that would be etched into one man's life for eternity.
Sitting on the engawa of the Tendo Dojo in the Nerima ward of Tokyo, the patriarch of the Tendo clan sat reading a familiar postcard with the picture of the Chinese panda on it. Soun Tendo felt the tears of joy streaming down his face. The card read simply, “Tendo, Bringing the boy. Genma.”
Soun let out a long, happy sigh as he rose from his perch. It finally was happening, after all these years. As he began to search for his daughter to bring them the good news of their impending nuptials, one familiar with this scene couldn't help but notice some of the missing details in the letter, and how this one little detail could change the lives of the Tendo daughters forever.

"Now that you are all here," he said proudly, "I have good news to relate. A very old and dear friend of mine named Genma Saotome is coming to pay a visit, and he's bringing his son with him."
"How long will they be planning on staying, father?" Kasumi at once asked, planning the domestic affairs for the household.
"Indefinitely," their father replied, holding up the postcard that had a picture of a panda eating bamboo on the other side, "Because Genma's son is about to marry one of you girls to unite our Houses."
A pause.
"What?" Akane and Nabiki said in chorus, while Kasumi just looked surprised.
"What kind of inane arrangement is this anyway," Akane continued. " You don't honestly expect us to go along with this, do you Dad?"
"I most certainly do," Soun grew very serious and sober, "The traditions of our school must be passed down within the family. You, as the only one of my daughters who has seriously studied the art, should take into consideration your obligation to carry on our line..."
"No way!" Akane leaped to her feet, "I can't believe that you would do something like this without at least consulting with us..."
Nabiki interrupted Akane before she could lay into her father. "Is he cute?"
Soun turned to look out the engawa. Calmly lighting a cigarette in his mouth, he replied “No idea.”
Nabiki raised an eyebrow at her father. “’No idea?’”
“I’ve never met him.” Soun said as he let out a puff of smoke.
Something occurred to Nabiki. “What’s his name?”
“Don't know,” her father replied.
Before any of the girls could speak, a knock came from the front door. “That must be them!” Soun cried out as he ran for the door. Nabiki started to follow, but she sat back down as she noticed both of her sisters hadn’t moved.
Soun was unaware he was goint to be in for a surprise as:
