"HEY OLD MAN!" Ranma declared, using a shundo to leap forward and up and send an affectionate swat to his father's head.
Genma blocked automatically and replied with a similar manuever. "Ranma. You're ready?"
"Yeah, yeah, I heard - new training to complete," said Ranma, cracking his knuckles. "So - new special technique?"
"In a manner of speaking," said Genma. "Do you remember Konoka and Setsuna?"
"Yeah!" said Ranma after thinking a bit.
"I remembered to tell you that you're engaged to them, didn't I?" asked Genma.
"No," said Ranma, waiting for the punchline.
"They've been training in their respective Arts," said Genma. "Konoka is a potent White Mage. Setsuna is showing great promise as a swordswoman."
"Okay," said Ranma, still waiting.
"This is what they look like now," said Genma.
"Yer serious?" asked Ranma, looking up at his father as the two girls entered the far side of the chamber.
Konoemon Konoe, weird-shaped head and all, harrumphed from the rock he was sitting on nearby. "It was an interesting deal."
"How can I be engaged to TWO girls?" asked Ranma, who still thought that girls were somewhat icky at his age.
"Oh, you're not engaged to just two girls," said Genma reassuringly.
"Well, good, I... say what?" asked Ranma.
"I made a great deal for my granddaughter," said Konoe.
"Yes, I got an entire sack of rice and a whole chicken for you, boy," said Genma with a sigh.
"Say what?" asked Ranma, distracted from the earlier comment.
The two ten-year-old girls waved from the other side of the gymnasium. Ranma weakly waved back.
"Yup," said Konoemon. "'Square Deal' Konoe, they call me."
"Say what?" repeated Ranma.
Another girl joined the two over there.
"Don't tell me," said Ranma, recognizing the third.
"Now this will be a test of training, yours and theirs," said Konoe. "You're going to try to run and hide. They're going to try and chase and catch you. Sort of a game of tag."
"Is she?" asked Ranma looking from the third girl to his father.
"Sort of," evaded his father.
"SORT OF?!" asked Ranma.
"She was very persuasive after you healed her a few years back," said Genma.
