Reverend Mulcahey raised his hands and focussed his will and spirit, quick Latin phrases intoning his plea. The ground responded, stone thrusting up along the lines his hands indicated until a sheer wall three feet thick and twelve feet high cut the road leading into town completely off and linked the two buildings on either side.
Rabbi Kohl finished writing on the slip of paper, then placed it in the open mouth of a bronze statue of some ancient knight. He prayed and the statue seemed to shake off an ancient sleep as it straightened up.
Pastor Rainwall frowned and held out his hands, praying for divine fire to cleanse this horde. A few moments later he began sending jets of white flame out into the shuffling crowd.
"It appears He does not care how we do His work, only that we do so," said Rabbi Kohl.
"Differences in our philosophy to the side," said Reverend Mulcahey, panting slightly from effort, "do you suppose this is happening everywhere?"
"Oy vey," said Rabbi Kohl, the only one of the three not standing on the wall, "well, as long as their faith is strong, they'll be okay."
All three of them immediately thought of some of the big-town superiors they had and wondered how doomed they all were.
Doctor Mizuno raised one hand. "Just a moment, dear. Saggita Magica. Una lucis!"
There was a snap, a crack, and a three headed crow with lots of teeth splatted into the pavement.
"You were saying, dear?" asked Doctor Mizuno, keeping an eye outside her hospital for monsters.
Ami boggled. Most of the Senshi boggled. Ranma pointed his hand at random targets and tried muttering various phrases.
Minako pointed her hand at her face and tried the same phrase. WHACKUM! Minako dropped to the pavement, looking thoroughly stunned.
"I guess you've noticed the space/time rift and that magical energy is flooding into the world," said Ami.
"You could say something like that," said Doctor Mizuno. "The hospital chaplain is setting up wards around the hospital but it will take him some time to bless them and set them up."
"I... see," said Ami.
"It isn't affecting everyone, nor is everyone affected manifesting in the same way," said Doctor Mizuno.
"Tell me about it," muttered a dog as he looked over at Luna.
"Uhm," said a nervous Luna.
"You know, it was rather obvious to anyone with a sense of smell that you weren't a normal cat," said the dog who was a Bulldog with an appropriately British accent. "So what's your take on it?"
"Errr," said a nervous Luna.
"If you were going to tell me that those of strong faith who can access magic can cast spells of a THEME," said Doctor Mizuno, "or concept-related magic, while those spellcasters who are more academic are able to cast spells of one or two ELEMENTS with one being a specialty - we've already figured that out."
"I'll see if the tea's ready," said the bulldog, excusing himself.
"Errr," said Ami.
