Ranma closed his eyes and focused on the... sensation, whatever, of Hypre. He blinked; he could feel a kind of sleepy mutter, but that was it. He frowned and focused harder, and was rewarded with an irritated sensation, kind of like claws scraping absently on his wrist.
"Well," Misty asked, "where is it?"
"Her," Ranma corrected absently. "Hold on a minute." He clamped down and focused even harder. There was an angry 'meow' inside his head and Hypre sprang out of thin air somewhere above his arm and landed on the street in an undignified sprawl.
"Awww... how cute!" Misty exclaimed. "Can I pet it - her?"
Ranma shrugged. "Eh, sure, I don't see why- yeeowch!"
The kitten examined its claws in satisfaction and licked the blood off while Ranma hopped up and down holding his injured leg. Then, giving Misty a curious glance, Hypre took off down the street.
"Hello? Professor? Professor Oak? Ash? Nanako? ... Misty? Somebody? ... ... ... help?"
Brock sighed and slumped back against the side of the tank. Last he knew he was going to get in and get his spirit beast and then... nothing. He looked around. No spirit beast, no other human, no food, no nothing. What was going on?
"Professor!"
Ranma hissed as he gingerly finished wrapping the bandage around his shin. He was perversely proud of Hypre's ability to defend herself... but he really wished that she didn't repeatedly demonstrate it upon his person.
First there was his left ankle. Then, when he had chased her down afterwards, she had let herself be picked up, only to scratch up his whole arm... and then she'd taken off again.
This had set a pattern; he'd run after her, catch her after a brief sprint, then she'd scratch him up (or, on one occasion when he'd grabbed all four legs, bite him) and take off again. The left ankle and arm were soon joined by his right arm, his chest, the left leg again, the groin (he swore she had aimed deliberately on that jump), the right leg and, now, the left leg yet again.
Misty wasn't any help at all, either. She giggled at his futile attempts to catch his spirit beast, didn't help at all and, whenever he was ready to just give up and let Hypre wander as much as she wanted (or until the drain drove her back to rest) she would somehow get him to try once more. It was the eyes, he figured.
This was the last time though. After this, if Hypre wanted to play she could do it all by herself.
Still, in spite of the trouble, he liked her. She was small, she was cute, she felt good to pet, she...
"Hey! Come back here you little beastie! That was my dinner!"
... She was running back towards him full-tilt, an angry man chasing after her... and a sausage in her mouth. Joy.
