"You're not used to sea travel are you?" asked Ranma. "First time?"
"Yes," admitted the pink-haired girl.
"So, ninja much?" asked Ranma.
The girl stiffened ever so slightly. "Ninja don't exist."
"Pshaw, yeah right," said Ranma. "That's why I recognized you were attempting to use your chakra to cling to the mast but couldn't focus. Lotsa people get sick the first time they're out at sea, and when yer insides are going outside - being able to focus anything's kinda screwed up."
Sakura switched from watching the sea to her companion.
"I know the rules, no ninja-secrets outside yer villages," said Ranma, snorting at the end of that statement as a sort of emphasis. "All of yer ninja villages do that stuff. Ya think yer the only ones to practice nen techniques though?"
"Nen?" asked Sakura.
"Nen is what they call it when it's a unique technique and the practitioner's not a ninja," said Ranma.
Sakura's hand strayed towards a pouch on her belt, still suspiciously looking towards the young male.
"Ya pull out any kunai, I'm real sorry, but I'm gonna have to make you eat 'em," said Ranma. "Yer not laid back enough for Village Hidden In The Forest so... Village Hidden In The Mountains?"
"How do you..."
"Puh-leeze," said Ranma, rolling his eyes. "Ya think ANY of the Hunter candidates don't know a few things like that? Oh, waitaminute, that headband. Ya ARE from Konoha. So how's the old man?"
"Old man?" asked Sakura, confused and off balance.
"That hokage," said Ranma. "Sarutobi."
Sakura stared. Of all potential responses she'd foreseen, this hadn't been on the list. "You know the Third Hokage?"
"Yeah, he and my old man apparently knew each other," said Ranma. "So how's he doing?"
"He's... fine, I guess," said Sakura.
"Cool," said Ranma. "He might'a been one of my old man's friends, but that was some pretty good eating back then and some of those techniques are real lifesavers."
"Who's your father that he knows the Hokage?" asked Sakura, wondering if she should know.
"Now THAT... is a secret," said Ranma, smirking. "Hey, don't fall overboard!"
"What do you mean that's a secret?!" demanded Sakura.
"Look, yer just worried someone stealin' bloodline stuff secrets, and that ain't my thing anyway," said Ranma. "How can ya steal a genetic technique anyway? Main reason the old man took me there was cause of MY talent."
"You've got a talent?" asked Sakura, thinking that this was the first thing the boy had said that made sense. If he had a kekkei genkai, then training in a ninja village would be expected.
"Something like that," said Ranma.
"Let me guess, it's a secret?" asked Sakura, slightly annoyed at this point.
"You got it," said Ranma. "Ah, here's the second part of the storm."
"SECOND PART?!" asked Sakura. "You're kidding right?"
