"What is it?" asked Inuyasha/Kappei, sniffing himself but not able to smell anything in particular. He was used to it happening on new moon nights, where his senses seemed muffled and dull.
To Kagome though, the world had become much more detailed. Not in sight, but her other senses seemed to have gone extremely sensitive. It was a scent that flitted across her nose that gave her the most difficulty. Not the scent of crushed herbs that masked Sango's usual scent. Not the vague smell of unwashed male coming off of Shippo. Not the smells from Miroku. No. The scent really raising her hackles was something she'd never smelled before but immediately identified. "He's nearby."
"Who?" asked Kappei, hand going to where he remembered Tessaiga but that was now a naginata that Kagome was handling. He looked down, verifying that he had no weapon sitting there. Instead there was a bow and some arrows nearby that he guessed was his - at least until the next new moon. "Is it Naraku?"
Kagome shook her head, trying to clear it. She felt unfamiliar feelings welling up inside her. Anger. A sense of territorial desire.
Sango and Miroku both took a step back as Kagome snarled, baring her fangs.
"Hmph," said a familiar voice.
Kagome growled as Sesshomaru stepped out of the woods.
Sesshomaru's eyes flicked towards 'Kappei' - apparently waiting for something.
Seeing Kagome about to attack Sesshomaru, Kappei/Inuyasha could only think of one thing to do. "SIT, girl."
KA-THWAM!
"ouch," said Kagome into the dirt.
Sesshomaru nodded. "Good. There was something odd occurring over here. I thought that Kagome might have done something foolish again."
"Uhm, gee, well, that's kinda what happened," said Kappei.
"Good," said Sesshomaru. "Remember. I'm counting on you to keep a tight leash on her."
"tight LEASH?!" began Kagome, prying herself out of the dirt.
"SIT!"
ker-WHAM!
"So troublesome," said Sesshomaru, turning a pitying gaze towards 'Kappei'.
Kappei/Inuyasha was getting a REALLY weird feeling about all this. Just the fact that SESSHOMARU looked as though he was pitying someone?
Sesshomaru continued on, looking briefly down at Kagome.
"Don't get near that girl, Rin, you might pick up bad habits or something," counseled Jaten as he led Rin along in Sesshomaru's wake.
"Don't worry, Jaten, I'm not some loose woman," said young Rin. "Whatever that means."
"Good girl," said Jaten, as they followed the path Sesshomaru had taken.
"W-what?" asked Kagome.
"How could... oh yeah," said Miroku.
"What?" asked Kagome, brushing dirt off her face. So that was what a 'sit' felt like? No wonder Inuyasha didn't like it.
"'Oh yeah' what?" asked Kappei.
"Kagome has that reputation, flirting with wolfboys and tigerboys and lionmen," said Miroku.
"and bears and creatures of the wild and..." Sango let her voice trail off. "Oh. Waitaminute. I remember that, but she's actually innocent. It's just that she just gets caught in circumstances that are easily misinterpreted and look terribly naughty."
"I do... what?" asked Kagome, wanting a paper bag to put over her head.
"Remember how that one village thought she was trying to tempt their youth just because of that curse she got hit with where her clothes kept falling off?" asked Sango, looking as if she were trying not to laugh.
"Oh yeah," said Miroku, his eyes glazed.
"That never happened," complained Kagome. "Those are just false memories."
"Well, yeah, I know that," said Miroku. "On the other hand, Sango, do you remember when Kagome was learning the wind scar and kept blowing her own clothes off?"
"Oh, DO I?" asked Sango. "I remember a few things about that." Her voice sounded less than amused at this point.
"Do you remember when she blew off YOUR clothes?" asked Miroku.
Sango's expression seemed to answer that affirmatively.
"So Sesshomaru telling me to put Kagome on a tight leash meant..." Kappei's voice trailed off.
Miroku's eyes widened and glazed at the same time.
Sango's eyes narrowed and went to Miroku as one hand went to her big boomerang.
Shippo wondered what all of them were talking about and if Kappei had any candy hidden back.
"SIT BOY!" tried Kagome.
Kappei/Inuyasha flinched briefly, but then realized why it hadn't worked. Then he slowly smiled.
