Unbroken: Genma's POV [Episode 193143]

by Kestral

Things were much different.

He'd been aware of how the Yakuza had been operating lately, and mostly he'd wanted to avoid them whenever possible. He was aware of the Yakuza-Triad-Police-Cartel wars going on right now, and wanted to stay clear of them as much as possible. Let the sociopaths and professional criminals kill each other, thank you very much.

The problem was that recently they'd had gotten involved. A set of gangs had swept in while they were camped out in a park, and before they'd known it there had been guns going off and weapons being wielded and things had gotten very bad very quickly.

Ranma and himself had done what was necessary to keep alive in that sort of thing. Fighting completely seriously and with deadly force until they could break out of the killing field that park had become. When a nearby set of houses had become casualties of the battle, they had gone back in to pull noncombatants out of harm's way.

Something had changed in Ranma when he'd seen some Triad member with a pair of axes standing over some girl that couldn't have been more than ten. He'd lost some of his innocence in that fight.

When they'd come at last to Nerima and found the place empty and rumors of Yakuza thugs, that had been all that was needed for the two of them to hunt down the nest.

Genma had observed Ranma during that fight. He'd gone into a "serious mode" that hadn't been present a few weeks before. He'd gone off and freed prisoners, not caring if they were innocent victims or maybe rival gang members. Fortunately, Genma had noticed the one that had tried to attack Ranma behind his back and quietly dealt with the would-be assassin.

Genma sighed. His plans had never worked out that well. As near as he could tell these Yakuza were of the Inagawa-kai group, if the emblems at their base had been any indication. Probably a splinter group.

Genma stood on the roof of the dojo and watched everything. His gaze took in the movements around the house and those inside the house as well. Ranma had the three daughters of Soun Tendo swearing to be his retainers. Well, at least they were getting along.

As it was, he was going to have to go find Soun - that meant leaving Ranma here to protect the girls. Or they could protect him. Whatever, it was going to require him to be away.

The fights between the various groups were getting both more high-powered and more apt to involve outsiders. This was bad. The Police NORMALLY mainly only came down on the Yakuza when certain lines were crossed, but those lines WERE getting crossed right now.

Still, he thought he knew what to do.
