1/2 Hazard: Survival of the Fittest [Episode 194999]

by NyteFlite

Makoto had been wide open. She'd had him, dead to rights. In a final bid to save himself and all El Hazard, he had accessed her core one last time... and it would've been if not for that other Ifurita. Kalia never saw the blast that was supposed to have killed her. All she knew was she'd been poised to strike, then she felt unimaginable heat coursing through her.

They had seen her dissolve into nothingness. To Kalia, it was like seeing everything else dissolve (as she loss both consciousness both and semblance) and fade to black. She supposed it was sorta like dying, only she hadn't. No doubt they and the rest of El Hazard were stomped as to how she could have survived; not that it was all that hard to figure out.

Whereas Ifurita was something of a bioroid, Kalia was composed of nanoids. It was what had allowed her to shift, effectively being in two places at once, taunting Makoto while simultaneously acting as the ship's core. Ifurita's attack had caused Kalia to suffer a type of cellular breakup. Simply put, she hadn't died. She'd simply fallen apart. Literally. But her creators had been clever enough to include a subroutine that enabled her to repair and restructure herself in case of just such an event, thereby ensuring her survival.

It was a feat neither Ifurita or the Eye was capable of and proof of the superiority of her design.

Even so, it'd been far from miraculous. Nor had it occurred overnight. It was weeks before the actual reconstruction began. The time prior to that was spent emitting a signal beacon to track and recover the nanoids that been scattered during the Trigger's collapse.

But something was wrong. By the time of completion, all her power should have been restored as well. By her estimate, however, she had only recovered little more than half. In fact, her subsconscious had been hard at work, trying to determine exactly why that was.

If she was human, she'd have said she had a hunch, but she wanted to be sure. In the meantime, another of her subroutines had kicked in, shutting down all but her vital functions as a means of conserving energy while her power cells recharged. That last bout with the Bugrom had depleted her reserves. Kalia guessed that guy showing up when he did might not've been such a bad thing after all.

She still didn't know what to make of him though.

Her primary concern, for the time being, was to recover. The Bugrom and that other guy had been pesistent in pusuing her. Probably 'cuz he was still upset about her tricking him. Kalia honestly didn't know what his problem was. I mean, was it her fault that she was so cute and he was so trusting? She'd have to give him a piece of her mind when she saw him (which was as soon she was back at a hundred percent). She didn't want him taking advantage.

For now, she'd sleep. In wouldn't be much longer before she awoke and then there'd be hell to pay.
