By all outward appearances, she looked like an innocent girl, about fifteen years in age. But the dark energy pulsing along her form was sufficient proof to the contrary. It was this perverse idiosyncrasy that belied the girl's true nature and had enabled her to fool virtually everyone she had come across. Typically, when one envisioned a super weapon, they imagined something like the Eye of God; not a cute little girl. Or tall voluptuous women with high powered cannons (keystaff).
It made you wonder if the ancients weren't really dirty old men.
Kalia's restoration rate was now at ninety eight percent; the numbers on her internal timer had begun to climb rapidly in relation to her growing power. The pulsing intensified til it reached its peak, bolts of the dark energy arcing about her like minirature lightning bolts. Then it faded to be replaced by a glowing machina type pattern on her face, which lasted little more than a second, before it too was gone.
And, for a moment, everything went deathly quiet; no wind, no sound. Even the animals, what few there were, had gone stock still. It was as if creation itself was holding its breath in both fear and awe of what was to come. However, Kalia's "grand awakening" wasn't as dramatic as the build up. She sat up sleepily, then stretched and yawned. *cue birds and animals facefaulting*. She blinked once or twice before standing to get a better look around; noting the withered state of everything around her.
Not a good sign.
She gazed down at her hand, flexing it open and closed in a fist. I still need external energy. Then closing her eyes a moment she questioned, Why? She let the matter drop, along with her fist as her arm went limp at her side.
She'd been about to leave when she finally noticed the tent and what was left of their fire. "Huh?" she blinked innocently. When had that gotten there? For that matter, when did she get here? This wasn't the place she remembered. Kalia tried to recall what'd happened.
Now wait a sec... she began, Those bugs had been attacking me and then... The mental image of being pursued by Bugrom readily came to mind. It was fine at first, but they had asaulted her nonstop for days. Plus there'd been so many. At least, that's how it seemed. Kalia thought a moment longer then held up a finger in "ah-ha!" fashion.
That guy! The memory of the umbrella wielding boy came unbidden. She supposed he wasn't bad, for a human, though she'd been miffed at the time for thinking she needed help. But there was no sign of him anywhere. Kalia rolled her eyes and shrugged, "Maybe they got him." Oh well, it wasn't her problem. It wasn't like she asked him to stick his nose in it. So it wasn't her fault if he'd gotten himself caught.
Anyhoo, she had bigger fish to fry; and a few butts while she was at it. Wordlessly, she levitated off the ground and rose vertically in the air. Once above the forest, she spun slowly in place, taking in everything for miles around her. She paused, her eyes closing in deep concentration. Minutes passed. Then her eyes flew open as something distant gained her attention. Grey eyes narrowed ever so slightly as her lower lip curled into a light frown. She didn't know what it was, only that she didn't like it.
There was something else, a beacon only her senses could detect and she could tell it was being projected toward her deliberately. Her expression didn't change. "Don't play with me, you bitch." Though her voice had barely been above a whisper, her tone was decidedly omnious. Kalia looked away from it, concentrating on the one from before. She could sense whatever it was, but couldn't pinpoint it. And, while it wasn't a deliberate action, it still annoyed her. Mind games were only fun when she was the one playing them.
At any rate, she wasn't going to find out anything staying here. Kalia paused to take a last look at what'd been her place of refuge when a stray thought crossed her mind. Too bad about that guy... he was actually kinda cute. As soon as she'd thought it, she blinked, clearly confused.
"Where'd that come from?"
She didn't linger on it. Right now, she had a decision to make: investigate the first signal or take care of the other one. After a moment's deliberation (which lasted all of a second), she went with her first mind and flew, leaving a yellow streak behind her.
