Renamon looked around. She was in the middle of an endless, white void.
"What happened?" she asked. "What happened to BioCalumon? And where am I?"
"You are currently residing within the barrier between realities," a calm voice spoke up and startled her.
"What?" she asked. "What does that mean?"
"It means that there are multiple, countless versions of the same world you and your friends are inhabiting," the mysterious voice continued. "When your friends Takato and Kei used the magical game, they merged two of those realities with each other. Your original reality, which caused you, Rika and several others to still be aware of the changes. And an additional reality, which was added after they decided that Digimon should live alongside humans. And now that reality is the dominating one, causing most humans and Digimons to act as if they were born in that reality... even though it was really the RPG Maker which changed them."
"But if that is true, then why am I here?" Renamon asked. "I only remember how BioCalumon pressed me back against the computer monitor..."
"Well, yes, unfortunately, Compsomon's attack caused a glitch to occur, which again caused BioCalumon's powers which were still stuck in the computer game, to malfunction. BioCalumon was only able to absorb a very tiny fraction of his original powers, while you were hurled into the limbo between realities. In your place, someone else was sent to where you came from... another version of yourself, coming from another reality. The backlash of the power surge was so powerful that it reached out to her own home reality and exchanged her with you... only wasn't it powerful enough to bring you to where she had been just moments ago."
"Then I have to do something. How can I return back there? And where did she came from, anyways? And who are you?"
"Oh, excuse me! I forgot you couldn't possibly see me like this. Just a second..."
She heard someone snapping his fingers, and then a ghostly figure appeared in front of her, startling her yet again. It was a portly human, wearing glasses. He was also slightly translucent.
The man grinned and gave her a short bow. "Prof. Rob McCoy, at your service!" he introduced himself.
"Are you... a ghost?" Renamon murmured.
Prof. McCoy sighed. "Well, you could say so... let's rather say that I am the product of an experiment gone wrong. The real McCoy died during the attack of the Devas on his laboratory, just when he was trying to splice his own DNA with the digital DNA of a Digimon. A short circuit caused my machine to malfunction, and it hurled this 'digital afterimage' of mine into the barrier between realities. And I was trapped here ever since, doomed to be an observer who could never intervene."
"I'm... sorry to hear that, Professor," Renamon said. "But you... you couldn't possibly help me returning to my own reality, can you?"
"Not by myself, I'm afraid," McCoy smiled sadly. "Although there is a way for you to return."
"How? Please, tell me! I have to make sure nothing horrible happened during my absence..."
"Now hold your horses, girl! There's no need to rush, time flows differently in here. Before you go back, there's something I'd like you to do..."
"What do you mean?" Renamon asked in confusion.
The professor sighed again. "See, to an extent, it is my fault that BioCalumon is on the loose. It was a different version of mine who entrapped the dangerous Gremlin he once had been inside that game... and this other version of me, this techno-mage, was hurled into limbo the same time my experiment failed and brought me here. And it caused us to merge into one single being. Would another one of your alternate doubles be thrown in here at the same time as you, the same thing would happen to you. Well, but let's not digress... You know, it was the Gremlin's powers that threw me and his prison through different realities, until I got trapped in here, while his CD prison appeared in your own reality, where it was soon after being sold as a new game. And by manipulating your friends, part of the Gremlin's consciousness managed to emerge as BioCalumon. If he should ever manage to claim all of his powers, I fear for what he may do to your own world."
"So what can we do to stop him?" Renamon asked. "Can't we just delete his Digimon body and absorb it?"
"Oh, no, no, no!" Prof. McCoy said hastily. "That would give him the chance to take over the mind of whoever absorbed it, maybe even giving him an even more powerful form. No, we have to make sure his powers and mind are kept separated. We need a similar CD to that one on which he created the RPG Reality game. I created a few others... but I can't go back and get them. Several of them were strewn all over different realities, but I know one dimension where one of them appeared. But don't worry, even though I can't leave this place, I can pull you back here once you have obtained the CD."
"I don't believe this..." Renamon groaned. "What kind of dimension is that anyways?"
"Well, it is..."
